Last year's level, we'd add three to five and expense offsetting those reductions were making.
In the meantime, especially in the last several months I think it's been over 100 days since since we talked to the public the impact of.
Speaker 4: especially in the last several months, I think it's been over 100 days since we talked to the public, the impact of.
Speaker 4: You know, on one hand, we benefited quite nicely.
On one hand, we benefited quite nicely.
I believe most of it.
Our cultivation strategy on focusing on the right things from from improved pricing that comes from product inflation.
Speaker 4: our cultivation strategy and focusing on the right things from improved pricing. That comes from product inflation, product scarcity, lack of availability, and of course we experience that in the labor market as well. So that's kind of a new layer of...
Product scarcity, a lack of availability and of course, we experienced that in the labor market as well.
And so that's kind of a new layer of.
Speaker 4: attraction or retention costs that we experience that's layered into our guidance for 2022. But our philosophy is to significantly bring down.
Attraction and retention costs that we experience that's layered into our guidance for 2022, but our philosophy is to significantly bring down.
Speaker 4: WSA as a percent of revenue to continue down a path of improved efficiencies.
WSI is a percent of revenue to continue down a path.
Improved efficiencies.
From.
From 2021 to 2022 will probably reduce WSI by at least 200 basis points as a percent of revenue.
Speaker 4: From 2021 to 2022, we'll probably reduce WSA by at least 200 basis points as a percent of revenue.
Like I've said for several quarters, we are in a build mode. We are in a growth mode. We are prioritizing growth over over cost containment, but we are like I said in the answer to last question. We're focused on changing our model and we're really making good headway on that path. So we did kind of.
Speaker 4: Like I've said for several quarters, we are in a build mode, we're in a growth mode. We are prioritizing growth over cost containment, but we are, you know, like I said in the answer to the last question, we're focused on changing our model, and we're really making good headway on that path. So we did kind of guide the first quarter to around 86 million. It gets a little murky going.
Guide, the first quarter to around $86 million.
It gets a little murky going forward because.
Speaker 4: We are, although we guide to it, I think, very tightly in our overall guidance on flow-throughs and revenues, etc., but, you know, we're going to be, we're focused on having the best people in the business.
We are.
Although we guide to I think very tightly in our overall guidance on flow throughs in revenues et cetera, but.
We're going to be more focused on having the best people in the business.
Speaker 4: We're focused on beating the competition. We're focused on growth.
We're focused on beating the competition.
<unk> focused on growth.
Speaker 4: We're focused on higher margins and cultivating new business and biasing those efforts towards higher margins costs a little more. That percentage, that percent of revenue will come down. Our projects to pull costs out of the business are underway. We are also, like I said, we're standing up a location this quarter. We're investing in new supercenters.
Focused on higher margins and cultivating.
New business.
And by seeing those efforts towards higher margins cost a little more so that percentage as a percent of revenue will come down our projects to pull cost out of the business are underway, but we are also like I said, we're standing up a location this quarter.
We're investing in new Super centers.
Speaker 4: for the future to grow the business. And those will be kind of offsetting costs. But we understand how important it is to be lean. That'll help us in good times and bad. And we're still going down that path for sure.
For the future to grow the business and those will be kind of offsetting cost but.
We understand how important it is to be lean that'll help us in good times and bad and we're still going down that path for sure.
And just as a follow up on your your Supercenter comment there Dave.
Speaker 5: And just as a follow-up on your Supercenter comment there, Dave.
You are in a in a growth market now and.
Speaker 5: You are in a growth market now and you pointed out you'll get increasing leverage on the WSNA line not withstanding your investing there. So I'm curious the philosophy...
You pointed out youll get increasing leverage on the <unk> line, notwithstanding youre investing there so I'm curious the philosophy when you.
Speaker 5: when you green light those investments like what you just called out on the supercenter what what are the set of conditions you want to see have the competent audio
When you Green light those investments like what you just called out on the Super Center. What are the set of conditions you want to see to have the confidence to move forward and make that incremental investment.
Speaker 4: That's a great question, Tommy, and I think I can answer for you. So, for example, the Permian Basin, which to me, D-NOW has a really strong position in the Permian Basin, not just from our standard branch business, which we're evolving, but from, like I said, Flex Flow, Odessa Pumps, TSN Fiberglass.
That's a great question Tommy.
I think I can answer for you.
So for example, the Permian Basin, which to me Dino has it has a really strong position in the Permian basin, not just from our standard branch business, which is which for evolving but from like I said flex flow Odessa pumps TSM fiberglass.
Speaker 4: and power service, we've got a really strong presence there with great brands.
And power service, we've got a really strong presence there with.
Great brands.
Speaker 4: And we think we have a real good position. Now in the last quarter, in the fourth quarter of 2021.
And and we think we are.
Good position now in the last quarter in the fourth quarter of 2021.
Speaker 4: we consolidated 10 locations in the Permian into five.
Consolidated 10 locations in the Permian into five.
And one part of the Permian.
Speaker 4: in one part of the permit. We think from that, we'll have more inventory for our customers.
We think that we will have more inventory for our customers.
Speaker 4: We'll be able to manage projects from fewer locations.
We'll have we been able to manage the projects from fewer locations.
From people, who deal in volumes, where we can get the expense per revenue dollar down we wont have distributed inventory risk what I call. When you have inventory strewn about network kind of exponential inventory risk you'll have less inventory risk in the next downturn.
Speaker 4: from people who deal in volumes where we can get the expense per revenue dollar down. We won't have distributed inventory risks.
Speaker 4: what I call when you have inventory strewn about a network, kind of exponential inventory risk, you'll have less inventory risk in the next downturn.
Speaker 4: and you'll have a much more efficient business. So we're growing in the Permian, we're standing up, we're growing in the Permian, we're standing up,
And youll have a much more efficient business so.
We're growing in the Permian, we're standing up.
We're growing in the Permian.
We just stood up a supercenter, but consolidated and we're doing it smartly and we're going to be better and better able to take care of our customers have more important to do so with less inventory risk. So that's an example of we are pulling cost out and getting better and getting stronger in the market.
Speaker 4: We just stood up a super center, but we're consolidating, and we're doing it smartly. And we're going to be better able to take care of our customers, have more employee to do so with less inventory risk. So that's an example of we are pulling costs out and getting better and getting stronger in the market.
Speaker 5: And Dave, I hope I'm not overstaying my welcome here, but just on that point you made, so using the Permian as an example, if you net of everything.
Dave I hope I'm not Overstaying my welcome here, but just just on that point you've made so using the Permian as an example.
If you can.
Net of everything you just described and.
Pro forma for the Supercenter is it fair to say that revenue per employee and revenue per square foot of roof line versus before the downturn should be higher notwithstanding the fact like you said that your consolidated 10% to five branches.
Speaker 5: pro forma for the super center. Is it fair to say that revenue per employee and revenue per square foot of roof line versus before the downturn should be higher, notwithstanding the fact, like you said, that you consolidated 10 to 5%.
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think so. Now, now the roofline comment I'm not sure about.
Yes, I think so now the <unk> comment I'm not sure about we might actually have more space today.
Speaker 4: We might actually have more space today, so I'm not going to comment on that, but we should see improved, really improved earnings per employee.
So I'm not going to comment on that but but we will we should see improved.
<unk> improved earnings per employee.
Speaker 4: Because I'd be more interested in the bottom line impacts of the investments we make or choose to walk away from than the top line. But generally that top line should follow suit, but I'd be more interested in watching the bottom line. Thank you, Dave. I'll turn it back.
Because I.
I'd be more interested in the bottom line impacts of the investments we make are choose to walk away from then the topline, but but generally that topline should follow suit, but I'd be more interested in watching the bottomline.
Thank you, Dave I will turn it back thank.
Thank you Tommy.
Thank you. Our next question comes from Jon Hunter from Cowen <unk> Company. Your line is now open.
Speaker 2: Thank you. Our next question comes from John Hunter from Cohen and Company. Your line is now open. Hey, thank you.
Hey, Thank you and good morning.
No.
Speaker 7: Hey, good morning. So first question is just going back to the margins. You know, the guidance seems to imply you're at like the 21, you know, high 21 margin in the first quarter. And that's what you're aiming for for the year to be in line with 2021. So, you know, I'm curious.
Hey, good morning. So first question is.
Just going back to the margins.
Guidance seems to imply you're at like 2021.
Hi, <unk> 'twenty one.
Margin in the first quarter and Thats, what youre aiming for for the year.
To be in line with 2021.
So.
I'm curious.
How you see margin progressing it seems flattish based on this outlook, but you have got.
Speaker 7: How you see margin progressing, it seems flattish based on this outlook, but you've got, you know, HRC pricing that's gone down quite a bit since the peak in September . I'm curious the things that you're doing to offset some of that pipe inflation. And then, you know, as it relates to the 21.9 percent, is that a level of gross margin you think you can...
HRC pricing Thats gone down quite a bit since the peak in September .
I'm curious the things that Youre doing.
Offset some of that pipe inflation and then.
As it relates to 21, 9% is that a level of gross margin you think you can.
Speaker 7: maintain on a multi-year basis, I guess, as we go into 23 and 24. Thanks.
Maintain on a multiyear basis I guess as we go into 'twenty three.
Sure. Thanks.
I do I mean.
So.
22.
Speaker 4: 2021 was our best gross margin year. Each quarter had successive improvements in gross margin.
2021 was our best gross margin year, each year had success.
Each quarter had success of improvements in gross margins.
Speaker 4: So, while we wanted to come into this call saying 22% in 2022, we're a little bit cautious about over-guiding on gross margins because we had such success in 2021, and to the points about hot-rolled coils, steel prices declining.
So while we wanted to come into this call, saying, 22% in 'twenty two 2022 we're a little bit cautious about over over guiding on gross margins because we had such success in 2021 and to the points about hot rolled coil steel prices declining.
Inflation may be adding mid year, which I think it would be later in the year generally and NAV. Even later in the year for pipe.
Speaker 4: Inflation may be ebbing mid-year, which I think would be later in the year generally, and maybe even later in the year for PIPE. You know, there are some offsets to that. But in terms of maintaining it over time, I believe we can, and here's what I mean.
There are some offsets to that but in terms of maintaining it over time I believe we can and here's what I mean.
We didn't talk about it in our prepared remarks, and we didn't talk about it in the Q&A yet.
Speaker 4: We didn't talk about it in our prepared remarks, and we didn't talk about it in the Q&A yet, but during.
During.
Speaker 4: During 2021, we, in fact, mostly in the fourth quarter of 2021, we exited, consolidated,
During 2021.
<unk>.
In fact, mostly in the fourth quarter of 2021 week.
Exited consolidated 15 locations.
Speaker 4: Today, we have over 125 fewer people than we did at the end of 2020, in part because we've walked away from some lower margin business. We didn't see ... We're trying to be more efficient as a company. The efforts underway for those folks wasn't generating any kind of margin, so we walked away from maybe $30 million in business.
And we today, we have over 125 fewer people than we did at the end of 2020.
In part because we've walked away from some low margin lower margin business. We didn't see we're trying to be more efficient as a company. The efforts underway for those bulks wasn't wasn't generating the kind of margins.
Walked away from maybe $30 million of the business.
Speaker 4: What that means is we have our people focused on the higher margin stuff.
What that means is we have our people focused on the higher margin stuff.
We don't have our people focus on lower margin stuff.
Speaker 4: We don't have our people focused on the lower margin stuff. We are able to generate much better flow throughs from the activity in an environment where it's hard to, you know, we have to deal with labor inflation as well as product inflation. So I think it's a matter, it's not just the market that's driving our gross margin performance.
We are able to generate much better flow through from the activity.
In an environment, where it's hard to.
We have to deal with labor inflation as well as product inflation. So I think it's a matter it's not just the market that's driving our gross margin performance.
In fact, I made a big deal about it and then last call we've made year over year.
Speaker 4: In fact, I made a big deal about it on the last call. We've made year over year.
Speaker 4: uh... product margin improvements for the last five years. That's a matter to me of careful cultivation of what you're not going to do in the market to make sure you have the right people focused on the right thing. So I do think that these gross margins can be...
Product margin improvements over the last five years, that's a matter to me a careful cultivation of what you are not going to do in the market to make sure you have the right people focused on the right things. So I do think that the.
These gross margins can be sustained.
And in terms of how it flows during the year I think we're just going to have to see I think.
Speaker 4: And in terms of how it flows during the year, I think we're just going to have to see. I think it's, you know, if some of our higher margin products are less available, then of course we'll see a mixed issue and that would be depressive to margins. But you know, we've got it for a very strong gross margins. I do believe it's sustainable and it comes from real laser focus to what we're not going to do as a company.
Some of our higher margin products are less available then of course, we'll see a mix issue and that would be depressive to margins, but we have guided for a very strong gross margins I do believe it's sustainable and it comes from we are laser focused on what we're not going to do as a company.
Speaker 7: Thanks, Dave, that's very helpful. Switching gears a little bit, I guess, to the top line side of things, so you guided 22 revenues up low to mid-teens. To me, it seems like it could be a little bit conservative. I mean, the recount's tracking up 30%.
Thanks, Dave.
That's very helpful switching.
Switching gears, a little bit I guess to the.
Topline side of things. So you guided 22 revenues up low to mid teens.
To me it seems like it could be a little bit conservative I mean, the rig count is tracking up 30%.
Year over year U S is maybe 70% of your business.
Speaker 7: year over year, US is maybe 70% of your business. So just based on that you're up 20%.
So just based on that you are up 20%.
Speaker 7: Now, I know, you know, there's a little bit of public versus private customer mix going on, but you also said that Canada and international should be up in 2022. So, curious if you can help me kind of look into the moving pieces regionally in the 2022 outlook for revenue to be uploaded.
Now I know theres, a little bit of public versus private customer mix going on.
But you also said that Canada and international should be up in 2022. So.
Curious if you can help me.
Kind of looking at the moving pieces regionally in the 2022 outlook for revenue to be up low to mid teens.
Speaker 4: Okay, so we're basing that on what we see in terms of what's happened in the first 45 days of the court.
Okay. So so we're basing that.
On what we see in terms of what's happened in the first 45 days in the quarter.
Speaker 4: We're basing that on what we see in terms of the influx of products, we're basing that on what our customers are telling us, and we're looking at some of our peers and how they're seeing the market, and we think that's...
We're basing that on what we see in terms of the influx of products or.
We're basing that on what our customers are telling us.
And we're looking at some of our peers and how they are seeing in the market and we think thats.
Speaker 4: You know, I don't see it as, we gave a range of low to mid-teens in terms of revenues. I think most of that, by the way, will happen. I think we'll see the strongest growth in the U.S., seconded by Canada, and then more modest growth internationally.
I don't see it we gave we gave a range of low to mid teens in terms of revenues I think most of that by the way will happen I think we're seeing the strongest growth in the U S. Seconded by Canada, and then more modest growth internationally.
But there is.
Speaker 4: You know, if you look at rig count and completion and some of the things we traditionally looked at, there's been a decoupling in terms of customer budgets from those numbers for several quarters now. We expect that to persist.
If you look at rig count and completions and some of the things. We traditionally looked at Theres been a decoupling in terms of customer budgets from those numbers for you know for several quarters now we expect that to persist and.
Speaker 4: And so we're guiding, we're giving this our best.
So we're guiding we're giving.
Our best.
Speaker 4: effort at what we think the growth is going to be. And like I said earlier, you know, to see the kind of gross margin progression we've delivered and to continue to
Effort at what we think the growth is going to be.
And like I said earlier.
See any kind of gross margin progression we've delivered.
And to continue to.
Speaker 4: kind of prune the business and fall out costs where the value is not being added. We've walked away from probably $39 million in revenue. So that would be 2 or 3% more revenues that we would have enjoyed in 2022, but that we wouldn't have benefited from at the bottom line.
Kind of pruned business and pull out costs, where the value is not being added.
Walked away from probably $30 million in revenue, so that would be 2% to 3% more revenues that that we would have enjoyed in 2022, but that.
Wouldn't have benefited from the bottom line.
Speaker 4: So, you know, I think that's a good range and, uh...
So I think that's a good range and.
Speaker 4: And it depends on how the year flows. And so I think we're sticking with that. I don't think it's conservative. I think it's, certainly at the top end, it's a pretty strong number.
It depends on how the airflows.
So I think we're sticking with that I don't think it's conservative I think it's certainly at the top end is a pretty strong number.
Speaker 7: Absolutely. And then last one for me, you expect to generate free cash flow in 2022. Do you think you can do better than the $25 million you did in 2021? And how does working cap consumption work into that outlook? Thanks. Yeah, I think it's in that range.
Absolutely and then last one for me you expect to generate free cash flow in 2022.
Do you think you can do better than the $25 million you did in 2021, and how does working cap consumption.
Work under that outlook. Thanks.
Yes, I think it's I think it's in that range I mean, we.
Speaker 4: The one wild card there is the receipt and timing of inventory.
The one wildcard there is.
The receipt and timing of inventory.
What kind of a one thing driving whether that will be more or less than 25 million, but I think we can be $25 million. There are scenarios, where we're ahead of that in scenarios, where we're a little bit behind it but we.
Speaker 4: That's kind of the one thing driving whether that'll be more or less than $25 million. But I think we can beat $25 million. There are scenarios where we're ahead of that and scenarios where we're a little bit behind it. But we do plan to be well prepared for the growth in the coming months.
We do plan.
To be well prepared for the growth in the coming months.
Great. Thanks, I'll turn it back okay. Thank you.
Thank you.

Attraction and retention costs that we experience that's layered into our guidance for 2022, but our philosophy is to significantly bring down.
WSI is a percent of revenue to continue down a path.
Speaker 4: WSA as a percent of revenue to continue down a path of improved efficiencies, you know
Improved efficiencies.
From.
Speaker 4: from 2021 to 2022, we'll probably reduce WSA by at least 200 basis points as a percent of revenue.
From 2021 to 2022 will probably reduce WSI by at least 200 basis points as a percent of revenue.
Like I said for several quarters, we are in a build mode. We're in a growth mode. We are prioritizing growth over over cost containment, but we are like I said in the answer to last question. We're focused on changing our model and we are.
We're really making good headway on that path. So we did kind of guide the first quarter to around $86 million.
It gets a little murky going forward because.
We are.
Speaker 4: We are, although we guide to it I think very tightly in our overall guidance on flow-throughs and revenues, et cetera, but we're gonna be, we're focused on having the best people in the business.
Although we guide to I think very tightly in our overall guidance on flow throughs and revenues et cetera, but.
We're going to be more focused on having the best people in the business.
Speaker 4: We're focused on beating the competition. We're focused on growth.
We're focused on beating the competition.
We're focused on growth.
Speaker 4: focused on higher margins and cultivating new business and biasing those efforts towards higher margins costs a little more. So that percentage, that percent of revenue will come down. Our projects to pull costs out of the business are underway. But we are also, like I said, we're standing up a location this quarter, we're investing in new super centers.
We're focused on higher margins and cultivating.
New business.
And by seeing those efforts towards higher margins cost a little more so that percentage as a percent of revenue will come down our projects to pull cost out of the business are underway, but we are also like I said, we're standing up a location this quarter.
We're investing a new super centers.
Speaker 4: for the future to grow the business. And those will be kind of offsetting costs. But we understand how important it is to be lean. That'll help us in good times and bad. And we're still going down that path for sure.
For the future to grow the business and those will be kind of offsetting costs, but.
Speaker 5: You are in a growth market now, and you pointed out you'll get increasing leverage on the WS&A line, notwithstanding you're investing there. So I'm curious the philosophy.
You pointed out youll get increasing leverage on the <unk> line, notwithstanding youre investing there. So I'm just I'm curious the philosophy when you when you Green light those investments like what you just called out on the Super Center. What are the set of conditions you want to see to have the confidence to move forward and make that incremental investment.
Speaker 5: when you green light those investments like what you just called out on the super center what what are the set of conditions you want to see have the confidence to move forward make that
Speaker 4: That's a great question, Tommy, and I think I can answer for you. So, for example, the Permian Basin, which to me, D-NOW has a really strong position in the Permian Basin, not just from our standard branch business, which we're evolving, but from, like I said, Flex Flow, Odessa Pumps, TSN Fiberglass.
That's a great question Tommy.
I think I could I think I can answer for you.
So so for example, the Permian Basin, which to me Dino has it has a really strong position in the Permian basin not just from our standard branch business, which is which we're evolving but from like I said flex flow Odessa pumps TSN in fiberglass.
Speaker 4: and power service, we've got a really strong presence there with great brands.
And power service, we've got a really strong presence there with great brands.
Speaker 4: Um, and, and we think we have, you know, a real good position now in the last quarter, in the fourth quarter of 2021.
And and we think we have.
A real good position now in the last quarter in the fourth quarter of 2021.
Speaker 4: we consolidated 10 locations in the Permian into five.
We consolidated 10 locations in the Permian into five.
Speaker 4: uh... in in one part of the permit we think from that will have more inventory for our customers
And one part of the Permian.
We think that we will have more inventory for our customers.
We'll have we been able to manage the projects from fewer locations.
Speaker 4: we'll be able to manage projects from fewer locations.
Speaker 4: from people who deal in volumes, where we can get the expense per revenue dollar down. We won't have distributed inventory risk.
From people, who deal in volumes, where we can get the expense per revenue dollar down we wont have distributed inventory risk.
Speaker 4: What I call, when you have inventory strewn about a network, kind of exponential inventory risk, you'll have less inventory risk in the next downturn.
I call when you have inventory strewn about network kind of exponential inventory risk you'll have less inventory risk in the next downturn.
Speaker 4: and you'll have a much more efficient business. So we're growing in the Permian. We're standing up. We're growing in the Permian.
And youll have a much more efficient business. So we're.
We're growing in the Permian, we're standing up.
We're growing in the Permian.
We just stood up a supercenter.
Speaker 4: We just stood up a super center, but we're consolidating and we're doing it smartly. And we're going to be better able to take care of our customers, have more employee to do so with less inventory risk. So that's an example of we are pulling costs out and getting better and getting stronger in the market.
Consolidated and we're doing it smartly and we're going to be better and better able to take care of our customers have more important to do so with less inventory risk. So that's an example of we are pulling cost out and getting better and getting strong in the market.
Speaker 5: And Dave, I hope I'm not overstaying my welcome here, but just on that point you made, so using the Permian as an example, if you net of everything...
And Dave I Hope I am not Overstaying my welcome here, but just just on that point you've made so using the Permian as an example.
If you can.
Net of everything you just described.
Speaker 5: pro forma for the super center, is it fair to say that revenue per employee and revenue per square foot of roof line versus before the downturn should be higher, notwithstanding the fact, like you said, that you consolidated 10 to 5%.
Pro forma for the Supercenter is it fair to say that revenue per employee and revenue per square foot of roof line versus before the downturn should be higher notwithstanding. The fact like you said that you consolidated 10% to five branches.
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think so. Now, now, the roof long comment I'm not sure about.
Yes, I think so now the roofline comment I'm not sure about we might actually have more space today.
Speaker 4: we might actually have more space today. So I'm not going to comment on that. But we should see improved, really, improved earnings per employee.
Im not going to comment on that but but we will we should see improved.
Really improved earnings per employee.
Speaker 4: Because, you know, I'd be more interested in the bottom line impacts of the investments we make or choose to walk away from than the top line. But generally, that top line should follow suit, but I'd be more interested in watching the bottom line. Yep. Thank you, Dave.
Because.
I'd be more interested in the bottom line impacts of the investments we make are choose to walk away from then the topline, but but generally that topline should follow suit, but I'd be more interested in watching the bottomline.
Thank you, Dave I'll turn it back.
Thank you Tommy.
Speaker 2: Thank you. Our next question comes from John Hunter from Cohen and Company. Your line is now open. Hey, thank you.
Thank you. Our next question comes from Jon Hunter from Cowen <unk> Company. Your line is now open.
Hey, Thank you and good morning.
So.
Hey, good morning. So first question is just going back to the margins.
Speaker 7: Hey, good morning. So first question is just going back to the margins, you know, the guidance seems to imply you're at like the 21, you know, high 21s margin in the first quarter. And that's what you're aiming for for the year to be in line with 2021. So, you know, I'm curious,
Guidance seems to imply you're at like the 2021.
Hi, <unk> 'twenty one.
Margin in the first quarter and Thats, what youre aiming for for the year.
To be in line with 2021 so.
I'm curious.
How you see margin progressing it seems flattish based on this outlook, but you've got.
HRC pricing, that's gone down quite a bit since the peak in September .
I'm curious the things that you're doing to offset some of that pipe inflation and then.
As it relates to 21, 9% is that a level of gross margin you think you can.
Maintain on a multiyear basis I guess as we go into 'twenty three.
And 24 thanks.
I do I mean.
So.
22.
2021 was our best gross margin year, each year had successive each quarter had success of improvements in gross margins.
So while we wanted to come into this call, saying, 22% in 'twenty two 2022 we're a little bit cautious about over.
Over guiding on gross margins, because we had such success in 2021 and to the points about hot rolled coil steel prices declining.
Inflation may be adding mid year, which I think it would be later in the year generally and NAV. Even later in the year for pipe.
There are some offsets to that but in terms of maintaining it over time I believe we can and here's what I mean.
We didn't talk about it in our prepared remarks, and we didn't talk about it in the Q&A yet.
During.
During 2021.
Speaker 4: During 2021, we, in fact, mostly in the fourth quarter of 2021, we exited, consolidated.
<unk>.
In fact, mostly in the fourth quarter of 2021.
Speaker 4: We don't have our people focused on the lower margin stuff. We are able to generate much better flow throughs from the activity in an environment where it's hard to, and we have to deal with labor inflation as well as product inflation. So I think it's a matter, it's not just the market that's driving our gross margin performance.
We don't have our people focused on the lower margin stuff.
We are able to generate much better flow through from the activity.
In an environment, where it's hard to.
We have to deal with labor inflation as well as product inflation. So I think it's a matter it's not just the market that's driving our gross margin performance.
In fact, I made a big deal about it on last call we've made year over year.
Speaker 4: In fact, I made a big deal about it on the last call. We've made year over year.
Speaker 4: of product margin improvements for the last five years. That's a matter, to me, of careful cultivation of what you're not going to do in the market to make sure you have the right, the people focused on the right thing. So I do think that these gross margins can be.
Product margin improvements.
Last five years, that's a matter to me a careful cultivation of what youre not going to do in the market to make sure you have the right people focused on the right things. So I do think that.
These gross margins can be sustained.
Speaker 4: And in terms of how it flows during the year, I think we're just going to have to see. I think it's, you know, if some of our higher margin products are less available, then of course we'll see a mixed issue and that would be depressive to margins. But you know, we've got it for a very strong gross margins. I do believe it's sustainable and it comes from real laser focus of what we're not going to do.
And in terms of how it flows during the year I think we're just going to have to see I think.
Some of our higher margin products are less available then of course, we'll see a mix issue and that would be depressive to margins, but we have guided for a very strong gross margins I do believe it's sustainable and it comes from we are laser focused on what we're not going to do as a company.
Thanks, Dave.
Speaker 7: Thanks, Dave. That's very helpful. Switching gears a little bit, I guess, to the top line side of things. So you guided 22 revenues up low to mid-teens. To me, it seems like it could be a little bit conservative. I mean, the recount's tracking up 30%.
That's very helpful switching.
Switching gears, a little bit I guess to the.
Topline side of things. So you guided 22 revenues up low to mid teens.
To me it seems like it could be a little bit conservative I mean, the rig count is tracking up 30%.
Speaker 7: uh... year-over-year u s is maybe seventy percent of your business uh... so just based on that you're up twenty percent
Year over year U S is maybe 70% of your business.
So just based on that you are up 20%.
Speaker 7: Now, I know, you know, there's a little bit of public versus private customer mix going on, but you also said that Canada and international should be up in 2022. So, curious if you can help me kind of look into the moving pieces regionally in the 2022 outlook for revenue to be up a little bit teens.
Now I know there was a little bit of public versus private customer mix going on.
But you also said that Canada and international should be up in 2022. So.
Curious if you can help me.
Kind of looking at the moving pieces regionally in the 2022 outlook for revenue to be up low to mid teens.
Okay. So so we're basing that.
Speaker 4: Okay, so we're basing that on what we see in terms of what's happened in the first 45 days of the court.
On what we see in terms of what's happened in the first 45 days in the quarter.
Speaker 4: We're basing that on what we see in terms of the influx of products, we're basing that on what our customers are telling us, and we're looking at some of our peers and how they're seeing the market, and we think that's...
We're basing that on what we see in terms of the influx of products for.
We're basing that on what our customers are telling us.
And we're looking at some of our peers and how they are seeing in the market and we think thats.
Speaker 4: You know, I don't see it as...we gave a range of low to mid-teens in terms of revenues. I think most of that, by the way, will happen...I think we'll see the strongest growth in the U.S., seconded by Canada, and then more modest growth internationally.
I don't see it we gave we gave a range of low to mid teens in terms of revenues I think most of that by the way will happen I think we'll see the strongest growth in the U S. Seconded by Canada, and then more modest growth internationally.
But there is.
Speaker 4: You know, if you look at rig count and completion and some of the things we traditionally looked at, there's been a decoupling in terms of customer budgets from those numbers for, you know, for several quarters now. We expect that to persist.
If you look at rig count and completions and some of the things. We traditionally looked at Theres been a decoupling in terms of customer budgets from those numbers for you know for several quarters now we expect that to persist and.
Speaker 4: And so we're guiding, we're giving our best.
So we're guiding well given this our best.
Speaker 4: effort at what we think the growth is going to be, and like I said earlier, you know, to see the kind of gross margin progression we've delivered, and to continue to
Effort at what we think the growth is going to be.
And like I said earlier.
<unk> seen a kind of gross margin progression we've delivered.
And Ted to continue too.
Speaker 4: kind of prune the business and pull out costs where the value's not being added, we've walked away from probably $30 million in revenue. So that would be, you know, 2% or 3% more revenues that we would have enjoyed in 2022, but that we, you know, wouldn't have benefited from at the bottom line.
Kind of pruned business and pull out costs, where the value is not being added.
We've walked away from probably $30 million in revenue, so that would be 2% to 3% more revenues that that we would've enjoyed in 2022, but that wouldn't have benefited from the bottom line.
So I think that's a good range and.
Speaker 4: So, you know, I think that's a good range and, uh...
Absolutely and then last one for me you expect to generate free cash flow in 2022.
Speaker 7: Absolutely. And then last one for me, you expect to generate free cash flow in 2022. Do you think you can do better than the $25 million you did in 2021? And how does working cap consumption work into that outlook? Thanks.
Do you think you can do better than the $25 million you did in 2021, and how does working cap consumption.
And of that outlook. Thanks.
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's I think it's in that range. I mean, we
I think it's I think it's in that range I mean, we.
The.
Speaker 4: The one wild card there is the receipt and timing of inventory.
One wildcard there is the.
The receipt and timing of inventory.
Speaker 4: is kind of the one thing driving whether that'll be more or less than 25 million. But I think we can beat 25 million. There are scenarios where we're ahead of that and scenarios where we're a little bit behind it. But we do plan to be well prepared for the growth in the coming months.
What kind of a one thing driving whether that will be more or less than 25 million, but I think we can be $25 million. There are scenarios, where we're ahead of that in scenarios, where we're a little bit behind it but we do plan.
To be well prepared for the growth in the coming months.
Great. Thanks, I'll turn it back thank you.
Thank you.
