Over the next 6–18 months customers will scrutinize metrics beyond “hours saved” — expect contracts to include service-level KPIs (reduction in mean-time-to-resolution for models, percent of pipelines automated) which favors vendors that can instrument and monetize those metrics. A distinct operational risk is quality arbitrage from coding assistants: faster output can increase defect density and maintenance load, turning nominal developer productivity gains into higher ops and SRE costs. Firms that don’t track downstream bug-hours or incident-related toil will see ROI evaporate in 3–12 months as technical debt compounds; this creates demand for tooling that ties code-gen to observability and test automation (and for storage vendors that support fast snapshot/rollback workflows). Vendor-embedded agents are a potential demand accelerant and a destruction vector simultaneously: if large ERP/CRM/cloud vendors ship compelling agents, internal agent projects become stranded, compressing short-term services spend but accelerating stack consolidation over 12–24 months. That consolidation favors platform incumbents that bundle compute, GPU/accelerator orchestration and secure data fabrics — and creates a tactical window for smaller, nimble storage/data-intelligence vendors to be acquisition targets. Regulatory and governance headwinds (data residency, model provenance) are likely to push enterprises toward hybrid/hardened storage and on-prem/offline enclaves for sensitive workflows, supporting persistent demand for appliances and managed private clouds. Monitor contract language evolution and vendor roadmaps over the next two earnings cycles; the market will rerate names that can demonstrate measurable, auditable AI outcomes and avoid those whose “time-saved” claims are unverifiable.
