Stocks making the biggest moves premarket: AeroVironment, Strategy, Merck & more

AeroVironment jumped 30% premarket after reporting $1.84 EPS and $642M revenue versus $1.46 EPS and $559M expected. Digital Realty Trust fell 4.5% after agreeing to buy a stake in three leased data centers from Blackstone for $7.8B. Merck (-0.6%) and AbbVie (-0.5%) edged lower as a U.S. House committee reportedly began a probe into whether China-based trials aided military capabilities.

Analysis

AVAV’s move is less about one quarter and more about a rerating of the small-drone stack: if bookings and margins are holding up, the market will start paying for faster program conversion and repeatable demand rather than treating this as a lumpy defense contractor. The second-order winner is the broader autonomy ecosystem — sensors, mission software, and component suppliers tied to attritable systems — while legacy prime contractors risk losing marginal budget share if procurement keeps tilting toward cheaper, faster-to-field platforms.

DLR’s deal is a different signal: it reinforces that stabilized, fully leased data-center assets remain in scarce supply, but it also raises the question of whether DLR is reaching for growth by buying mature cash flows at peak valuations. Near term, the stock can stay under pressure until investors see financing terms, cap-rate math, and whether the transaction is accretive on FFO after funding costs; over 6-18 months the bigger variable is power availability, not headline rent growth. If AI demand stays hot, the real beneficiary may be the landlords with development pipelines and utility access, not buyers of already-leased boxes.

The pharma probe is a classic multiple overhang rather than an immediate earnings event. ABBV/MRK should not see fundamental damage unless the inquiry expands into clinical-data restrictions or procurement consequences, but the market will likely haircut China-related optionality across big pharma and CROs until the process risk is clarified. The contrarian read is that the selloff may be too small if the committee has real subpoena power, but also too large if this remains a reputational probe with no enforceable follow-through; Strategy’s reversal looks like pure positioning noise and is only tradable off BTC direction, not company-specific fundamentals.
