TBC Bank Q2 2026 slides: 14th straight quarter above 23% ROE

TBC Bank reported Q2 2026 net profit of GEL 386m (+12% YoY) and kept ROE at 23.6% for the quarter (14th straight quarter above 23%), supported by a 10% YoY rise in operating income to GEL 917m. Net interest income rose 13% YoY to GEL 656m as net interest margin improved to 7.1% (from 7.0% in Q1), while cost-to-income fell to 38.3% (from 40.2%). The bank also declared a Q2 dividend of GEL 1.75/share (first-half GEL 3.50, +8% YoY) and completed its OLX Uzbekistan majority-stake acquisition in late July, with expected increased materiality from H2 2027 despite elevated Uzbekistan asset quality (NPLs 10.6%, cost of risk 11.8% vs Georgia 0.7%).

Analysis

This is still a high-quality domestic deposit franchise, but the market should view the print as a confirmation of compounding rather than a new re-rating catalyst. The real incremental positive is operating leverage: digital origination and a deep deposit base mean each additional loan unit should carry unusually high pre-provision profit conversion, which is why smaller local lenders and branch-heavy fintechs are likely to feel the competitive squeeze first. That said, at/near highs, the next leg up probably requires either another step-up in loan growth or a visible uplift from non-core monetization, not just another clean quarter.

The underwriting question is Uzbekistan, not Georgia. The economics there can still add value because yields are materially higher, but the stock will be punished if investors conclude the current asset-quality optics are being managed cosmetically rather than truly improving; the next 1-2 quarters are the key test. A flat-to-better cost-of-risk trend in the third quarter would support the thesis, while a renewed rise would likely compress the valuation multiple even if reported ROE stays elevated.

The contrarian angle is that the market may be underpricing the strategic value of the platform layer: the classifieds acquisition is less about near-term earnings and more about lowering customer-acquisition cost and increasing lending conversion over 12-24 months. Conversely, investors may be overestimating how much near-term fee pressure from potential interchange regulation can be absorbed, since that would hit a high-margin income stream and could offset some of the digital efficiency gains. Net: constructive, but not a chase at current levels unless the next quarter validates Uzbekistan stabilization and fee revenue resilience.
