UBS upgrades Aspeed Technology stock to buy amid AI server growth

UBS upgraded Aspeed Technology (5274:TT) to Buy with a new price target of NT$5,000, citing strong growth prospects for its baseboard management controllers (BMC) in AI and traditional servers. The upgrade is driven by anticipated demand for BMCs from AI servers, projecting increases of 81% in 2025 and 59% in 2026, and the potential for ASIC servers to contribute approximately 10% of BMC shipments by 2026. Despite a recent 24% stock correction, UBS remains optimistic due to sustained investment in Cloud AI and developments in ASIC technology.

Analysis

UBS analysts have upgraded Aspeed Technology Inc. (5274:TT) from Neutral to Buy, concurrently raising the price target from NT$3,500 to NT$5,000. This revised outlook is primarily driven by the anticipated robust growth in demand for Aspeed's baseboard management controllers (BMCs) within both AI and traditional server markets over the next three years. Specifically, UBS projects BMC demand from AI servers to surge by 81% in 2025 and a further 59% in 2026, translating to 4.3 million and 6.8 million units respectively; this would constitute 26% of total BMC shipments in 2025 and 36% in 2026. Furthermore, the emergence of ASIC servers is expected to contribute approximately 10% to Aspeed's BMC shipments by 2026. Despite a recent 24% correction in Aspeed's stock price from its August 2024 peak—attributed to conservative views on the BMC inventory cycle, macroeconomic uncertainties, and delays in Nvidia’s Blackwell server ramp—UBS maintains an optimistic stance. This optimism is underpinned by sustained investment in Cloud AI, which is perceived as less vulnerable to tariffs, alongside improved production outlook for Blackwell server racks and supportive ASIC technology developments from major cloud providers like Amazon and Meta. Aspeed's strategic focus on these burgeoning AI and ASIC server segments positions it favorably for future growth, according to the UBS assessment.
