Onity Group Announces Second Quarter 2026 Results

Onity (ONIT) reported Q2 revenue of $283M (+15% YoY) and adjusted revenue of $281M (+24% YoY), driven by record servicing scale: $42B total servicing additions (+64% YoY) and $341B ending UPB (+10% YoY). Despite the growth, GAAP net loss attributable to common stockholders was $13M (diluted EPS -$1.53) as restructuring costs from reverse asset sales/subservicing transfers totaled $9M pre-tax and MSR-related unfavorable asset fair value changes totaled $24M pre-tax. The company maintained adjusted ROE guidance at 10%-15% (expected lower end) amid persistent geopolitical instability, inflation, and market volatility, while repurchasing 141,343 shares for $5.8M.

Analysis

This looks more like a balance-sheet and disclosure-quality story than a clean operating inflection. Shrinking advances and exiting the reverse book reduce funding drag and tail risk, which should lower the equity risk premium over time, but the quarter still shows that reported economics are highly sensitive to valuation marks and non-recurring items. Until the newer adjusted ROE framework is proven for a few quarters, the market is likely to discount the headline profitability improvement.

The competitive takeaway is that scale still matters in non-bank servicing. Larger platforms with cheaper capital and better hedging can use periods of volatility to win subservicing mandates or buy MSRs on better terms, while smaller players that need liquidity will be forced into simplification at less attractive prices. If delinquencies rise or rates whip around, the apparent progress in advances and servicing stability can unwind quickly because the operating leverage runs both ways.

Near term, the stock is hostage to whether investors believe the guidance floor or view it as a ceiling. Over the next 1-3 months, the key catalyst is consistency: continued transfer completion, no new restructuring charges, and no deterioration in MSR marks. Over 6-18 months, the thesis only works if servicing growth converts into durable cash earnings faster than interest expense and compliance costs; otherwise book value growth can coexist with a stagnant multiple. Falsifiers are simple: another quarter of sub-10% adjusted ROE, widening funding spreads, or fresh mark-to-market pressure on MSRs.
