Earnings call transcript: Nepa posts stronger ARR but shares fall after Q2 2026

Nepa reported Q2 recurring momentum improving, with ARR up 16.4% YoY to SEK 140.9m and net revenue retention staying above 100%, while gross margin expanded to 75.9% from 72.7% and operating cash flow turned positive at SEK 1.2m. However, total sales bookings fell 12.5% (weakness concentrated in May) and the stock dropped 5.82% to $18.6 pre-market, as investors focused on uneven ad hoc demand and booking softness. Management gave no revenue/earnings guidance, but highlighted a stronger fall pipeline and plans to scale the new Trinity platform and AI tools (including a cited 40% cost-per-acquisition reduction for one client).

Analysis

The market is keying off conversion, not storytelling: ARR and margin improvement matter only if bookings stop whipsawing. That makes this a classic small-cap “good quarter, bad order flow” setup where the shares can stay range-bound until the company proves that recurring growth is self-sustaining without relying on lumpy project wins. The positive cash flow reduces near-term dilution risk, but it does not eliminate execution risk because the business still has meaningful exposure to discretionary marketing budgets.

The second-order winner, if management is right, is not the stock today but the customer expansion motion: a broader platform can deepen wallet share and push the company from point-solutions into budget-critical workflow software. The losers are incumbent research and agency-adjacent peers that still depend on one-off campaign spend, where timing delays can quickly translate into revenue misses. The AI/product claims are directionally supportive, but until they become repeatable across accounts they should be treated as funnel improvement, not a step-change in monetization.

Catalyst path: over the next 1-3 months, the only thing that matters is whether the delayed pipeline converts in the fall RFP cycle and whether bookings re-accelerate. Over 6-18 months, the real upside case is a sustained rise in recurring mix plus flat operating expense, which would justify a materially higher multiple. Falsifiers are straightforward: another bookings decline, gross margin slipping back under the mid-70s, or renewed cash burn that would force capital raising.
