The Best Rare Earth Stock to Buy and Hold for the Next Decade

Idaho Strategic Resources (IDR) highlights strong operating momentum with Q1 revenue of $14.5M (+98% YoY) and EPS of $0.40 (+233% YoY) while the stock is still down ~24% YTD. The company also announced significant heavy rare-earth mineralization (including yttrium) at its Diamond Creek project and is set to receive up to $1M from the U.S. DOE Critical Material Innovation program to advance magnet-rare-earth processing research. Offsetting risks include rare-earth metals not yet being produced at scale and potential operational disruptions, though balance sheet strength is cited (cash $20.7M vs. $6.6M debt; debt-to-equity ~0.02).

Analysis

IDR is better viewed as a financing and execution winner than a pure rare-earth call option. In a segment where most names must dilute to drill, a cash-generative gold core lowers the probability of a capital raise and gives management time to prove metallurgy; that is the real edge versus speculative domestic REE developers. The second-order benefit is that any credible processing progress could attract strategic interest from downstream magnet/materials players that want U.S. supply without betting on greenfield start-ups.

The market is likely underweighting that the near-term driver is still gold-operational consistency, not the deposit story. Over the next 1-3 months, the stock will trade on whether quarterly production stays clean and whether the company can avoid small-cap operational noise at a single asset; any hiccup there would overwhelm thematic enthusiasm. Over 6-18 months, the rare-earth upside is mostly about proof of recoverability and separation economics, which is where these stories usually fail.

Contrarianly, the consensus may be too generous on the DOE grant and too skeptical on the balance sheet. The grant is signaling, not monetization, but a profitable, lightly levered miner with embedded REE optionality can deserve a premium to loss-making peers if the market starts valuing time-to-cash flow more than headline resource size. The main falsifier is simple: if 2026 exploration/processing work does not produce independently useful metallurgical data, the REE multiple should compress back toward a gold miner valuation.
