Core Scientific Completes Acquisition of Polaris DS, Advancing Planned Muskogee Expansion to 1.5 GW of Gross Power

Core Scientific (CORZ) completed its acquisition of Polaris DS LLC, securing approximately 440 MW of currently in-service, gross, grid-connected power capacity used by Polaris under existing electric service agreements. The deal adds committed power infrastructure for Core Scientific’s high-density colocation business and is likely supportive, though the announcement provides limited incremental financial detail.

Analysis

This is less about M&A scale than about control of a scarce input: energized, grid-connected capacity. In digital infrastructure, the asset that matters is not land or a press-release megawatt count, but interconnect quality, deliverability, and the capex required to turn that capacity into billable load. That makes the headline mildly positive for CORZ, but the economic uplift only shows up if management can convert the MW into contracted utilization quickly enough to offset integration and retrofit costs.

The second-order winner set is broader than the stock may imply. Any operator with credible power access and low-cost conversion into AI/HPC workloads gets a scarcity premium, while miners whose "optional power" is still stranded or remote will likely underperform on a relative basis as investors separate real grid access from promotional capacity claims. Equipment vendors tied to power delivery and rack densification can also benefit if this triggers incremental retrofit spend, but the trade is in the supply chain, not the asset owner, because that spend is more predictable than lease-up.

The near-term risk is that the market overreads this as immediate EBITDA accretion when it is really an execution call. Over the next 1-3 months, the key catalyst is whether CORZ discloses customer demand, utilization, or incremental contracted MW; without that, the stock can retrace once the headline fades. Over 6-18 months, the thesis is falsified if the acquisition increases leverage or fails to improve return on invested capital versus simply building new capacity.
