WST Stock Up Nearly 33% YTD: Will the Uptrend Continue in the Rest of 2026?

West Pharmaceutical (WST) is up 32.9% YTD in 2026 after a strong Q1 beat and management’s raised full-year guidance. Q1 revenue rose 21% YoY to $845M and adjusted EPS jumped 47%, driven by 23% organic growth in high-value injectable (HVP) components and 66% YoY growth in EU Annex 1-related projects (expected to add ~200 bps to 2026 revenue). Adjusted operating margin expanded 350 bps to 21.4%, with management citing GLP-1 and biologics packaging demand plus regulatory-driven upgrades, despite risks from input cost inflation and intense competition (Baxter/BD).

Analysis

WST is benefiting from a classic supplier-power setup: when drug makers are forced to secure sterile, high-spec injectable capacity, they pay up for reliability and compliance rather than unit cost. That favors the most differentiated packaging vendor and creates a second-order drag on more commoditized peers, while also reinforcing a premium multiple if investors believe the mix shift is durable. The market is likely underestimating how much of this is timing-driven. A meaningful part of the current growth profile can come from launch cadence, regulatory conversions and customer stocking, which can fade faster than the end-market narrative if GLP-1 or biologics order flow normalizes. The key falsifiers are a drop in high-value product growth into the mid-teens, operating margin slipping back below 20%, or management failing to repeat guidance raises over the next 1-2 quarters. Competitive pressure is real but uneven: BAX still looks like a recovery story with operational risk, while BDX is the better-run rival but still lacks WST’s concentration in the fastest-growing niche. The contrarian view is that the stock may already be pricing in a multi-quarter beat-and-raise cycle; if so, absolute upside is less compelling than relative outperformance versus broader med-tech. Over 6-18 months, the real debate is whether Annex 1 and GLP-1 adoption create a durable step-up in baseline demand or just a temporary throughput spike.
