HOFSETH BIOCARE ASA: FIRST QUARTER 2026 FINANCIAL REPORT AND NEW COMMERCIAL UPDATE FOR CURRENT TRADING

Hofseth BioCare (HBC) reports a significant Q2 commercial pickup, expecting top-line revenue comparable to Q2 last year despite production volumes running ~40% lower YoY. Contracting reflects >100% YoY price increases for ProGo® peptides and OmeGo® salmon oil, and HBC expects to return to full production by end-Q3 following a recent NOK 144.5m gross capital raise (111.2m shares at NOK 1.30; ~NOK 66.5m via receivable conversion) that restores parent-company covenant compliance. However, Q1 remained weak with revenues down (NOK 49.5m vs NOK 60.9m) and EBITDA negative at NOK -23.2m, though gross margin improved to 43.5% (from 39.1%).

Analysis

The near-term setup is a balance-sheet repair story masquerading as a growth update. The equity raise materially reduces default risk and should lower the discount rate on the stock, but it also resets the share count before the market has proof that demand is durable. The right way to think about the business over the next 1-3 months is not revenue, but whether restored throughput plus richer mix can keep gross margin high enough to turn operating leverage positive once fixed costs normalize.

The second-order winner is any branded nutrition platform that can credibly attach itself to the GLP-1 ecosystem; the loser is commoditized omega-3 and generic collagen pricing, which will have to defend shelf space against clinically framed ingredients with stronger storytelling and better retailer pull. That said, the market may be overestimating how quickly clinical positioning monetizes: retailer launches and press releases do not equal repeat-through demand, and the company still needs proof that higher ASPs can persist after supply normalizes. If fish-oil tightness eases, the margin tailwind can fade faster than consensus expects.

Over 6-18 months, this is a multiple story if—and only if—full production is reached and cash burn meaningfully compresses. A successful Q3 ramp, followed by credible H2 clinical data, could move HBC from distressed small-cap to niche specialty ingredients, but any miss on execution would flip the setup back to dilution risk. The contrarian point is that the stock may rally on covenant relief while the core equity value remains hostage to a few quarters of cash generation; the financing removes insolvency, not the need for proof.
