Tennant Company Offers Growth And Value

Corporate Guidance & OutlookCompany FundamentalsTechnology & InnovationCorporate EarningsAnalyst Insights

Tennant Company remains a buy after a 34.7% rally, with shares still viewed as attractively valued versus peers. Management guided 2026 revenue to $1.24 billion-$1.28 billion and adjusted EPS to $4.70-$5.30, pointing to improved profitability. The company is also investing in autonomous robotic machines and targeting $250 million of AMR revenue by 2028, up from $27 million this quarter.

Analysis

The setup is less about near-term earnings momentum and more about whether TNC can re-rate from a cyclical industrial to a robotics-enabled automation platform. If AMR scales from a niche contribution to a meaningful revenue line, the market will likely start valuing the business on mix and durability rather than just replacement-cycle demand, which can justify a premium multiple even before absolute earnings inflect. The second-order winner is the service/software ecosystem around fleet management, battery maintenance, and floor-care automation; the loser is the traditional low-tech cleaning equipment peer set that lacks a credible autonomy roadmap.

The key risk is execution lag: autonomous rollouts usually face a long runway from pilot to fleet standardization, and the gap between interest and booked revenue can be 12-24 months. That creates a trap where the stock can run on narrative while the underlying adoption curve remains lumpy, especially if customers delay capex in a softer industrial environment. Any disappointment in AMR monetization would likely hit hardest in 2H26, when the market starts needing evidence that guidance can be converted into operating leverage rather than just aspiration.

Consensus may be underestimating how much the guidance implies for margin mix if AMR becomes even moderately material. A lower-unit, higher-service-content portfolio can expand gross margin faster than the top-line suggests, so the real upside is in earnings power per dollar of revenue, not just revenue growth. On the other hand, if the 2028 AMR target is still only a small fraction of total sales, the multiple expansion case may be capped and the stock could stall after the initial optimism fades.
