The S&P 500 rose 1.65% to 7,554.29, the Nasdaq jumped 3.07% to 26,683.94, and the Dow gained 0.92% to a record 51,671.03 as oil slid on U.S.–Iran peace hopes. AI-related names led the advance, with Nvidia, Meta Platforms, Micron Technology, and Western Digital rallying sharply, while SpaceX surged almost 20% after its IPO. Lower oil prices eased inflation fears and supported expectations for a more patient Fed stance.

Analysis

The clearest second-order winner is not just the obvious AI complex, but the suppliers of incremental compute capacity and memory bandwidth. When leadership broadens from one flagship name into adjacent semis and storage, it usually signals the market is pricing a multi-quarter capex cycle rather than a single earnings beat; that tends to support the whole data-center ecosystem, including components, interconnects, and advanced packaging, while leaving software names behind until monetization catches up.

The energy move matters more for rates than for oil equities. A sharp decline in crude reduces near-term inflation prints with a lag of roughly 1-3 months, which can steepen the odds of a more dovish policy path even if the central bank stays publicly cautious. That is constructive for long-duration growth and weakens the argument that the market’s multiple expansion is purely momentum-driven; however, if the geopolitical de-escalation proves temporary, energy can reverse faster than equities can digest, creating a sharp factor unwind.

The contrarian risk is that the current rally may be over-rotating on “peace dividend” and underpricing supply-chain bottlenecks inside AI. Lower oil is bullish for transports and consumer inputs, but if the equity market interprets this as a green light for indiscriminate risk-on, crowded mega-cap tech could become vulnerable to a correction once investors demand proof of incremental revenue from the capex cycle. The next 2-6 weeks are about positioning; the next 6-12 months are about whether AI spend translates into margins or just higher depreciation and tighter competitive intensity.
