Marvell Technology has nearly tripled in 2026. Wells Fargo says there are more gains ahead

Wells Fargo reiterated an overweight rating on Marvell (MRVL) and lifted its price target to $310 from $240, implying ~31% upside. The bank expects Marvell to grow revenue 15–20% long term and to benefit from a Google custom-chip deal that previously pushed shares up ~10%, while analysts see Q2 revenue of $2.709B (+35% YoY) and EPS of $0.92 (+38% YoY). With 38 of 44 analysts holding buy/strong-buy ratings, the outlook remains constructive ahead of the company’s Q2 earnings on Thursday.

Analysis

MRVL is being treated less like a cyclical chip name and more like a leveraged proxy on hyperscaler silicon localization. The key second-order effect is that custom silicon validation at Google increases the probability that other cloud platforms keep shifting more of their AI budget from merchant accelerators into semi-custom programs, which is structurally positive for Marvell’s addressable content but also raises concentration risk: revenue can compound fast, yet visibility remains lumpy until these sockets harden into repeatable volume.

For GOOGL, the implication is more subtle than an earnings boost: custom silicon should improve AI unit economics and reduce dependency on external accelerator pricing, which helps cloud margin durability over 6-18 months. The broader loser set is the merchant-silicon complex most exposed to hyperscaler insourcing — think AVGO in some networking/ASIC lanes and, selectively, NVDA/AMD where custom designs can displace incremental share, though the impact is socket-specific rather than a blanket demand shock.

The near-term risk is that the market has already pulled forward too much of the 2027 optionality. After a 179% run, an in-line print or merely decent guidance could trigger multiple compression even if fundamentals are intact; the stock now needs evidence that the Google relationship translates into a larger backlog or better margin trajectory, not just headline validation. Falsifiers are simple: any guide-down on 2H demand, softer data-center bookings, or commentary that the Google program is narrow/non-recurring would undercut the bull case quickly.

Contrarian view: the consensus may be overvaluing the strategic headline and underweighting concentration/execution risk. A purchase right is not the same as booked revenue, and the market could be paying today for a revenue stream that only becomes visible in 2027+, which is a long time to wait if AI capex cools or hyperscaler priorities shift.
