FactSet Reports Results for Third Quarter 2026

FactSet reported Q3 FY26 revenues of $622.9M (+6.4% YoY) and diluted EPS of $3.50 (-9.6% YoY) as GAAP operating margin fell to 26.7% (from 33.2%) due largely to higher compensation costs. On a more favorable basis, adjusted diluted EPS rose 6.1% to $4.53 and organic ASV increased 7.1% to $2.486B, supported by 90%+ of top-50 clients using 4+ FactSet AI products. The company also returned $243.4M to shareholders in the quarter via $203.1M buybacks and $40.3M dividends, while reaffirming FY26 guidance for organic ASV growth of $130M–$160M.

Analysis

FactSet is still compounding, but the quality of the growth matters more than the print: the quarter says recurring demand is intact, yet incremental economics are getting less attractive because AI-related product expansion is not yet offsetting heavier compensation and technology spend. That combination usually caps near-term multiple expansion for premium SaaS/data names even when topline is fine. The market should treat the stronger ASV/renewal backdrop as visibility, not as proof that AI is already accretive to margins.

Second-order, this is more defensive than offensive for the competitive set. If large clients are adopting multiple AI modules, FactSet is likely protecting wallet share versus Bloomberg, MSCI, SPGI, and LSEG, but it may also be training customers to expect broader platform bundles and slower price realization over time. The partnership-heavy approach also shifts some economics toward external infrastructure providers, which is a modest positive for GOOGL on cloud/AI usage, but it can leave FactSet carrying more of the implementation and support cost burden before monetization catches up.

The main risk is a margin reset over the next 1-2 quarters: if adjusted operating margin does not stabilize near the guided band and instead stays pressured, the stock can de-rate even with mid-single-digit revenue growth because EPS support is increasingly buyback-driven. The contrarian view is that the market may be underestimating retention durability and contract lengthening; if that translates into a cleaner FY27 margin recovery, the current weakness is more of a transitory investment-cycle issue than a secular problem. Falsifiers: ASV growth falling back below mid-single digits, retention slipping under the mid-90s, or a further step-down in adjusted margin despite stable demand.
