Microsoft has released Windows 11 version 25H2, delivered as a lightweight enablement package primarily focused on security enhancements and IT management, rather than new features. The update removes deprecated, vulnerable components and empowers IT administrators to uninstall pre-installed Microsoft apps on Enterprise and Education devices. Notably, Enterprise and Education versions of 25H2 will receive an extended 36-month support cycle, providing enhanced security, greater control, and increased operational stability for institutional deployments.
Wednesday, October 1st 2025 Microsoft Releases Windows 11 25H2... With Zero New Features? Microsoft has officially released Windows 11 version 25H2 after months of testing and previews. Delivered as a lightweight enablement package (eKB), 25H2 update is not a complete OS replacement but a light switch that turns on feature code already present on machines running 24H2. Microsoft stages new features inside regular cumulative updates in a disabled state. When the eKB is installed, it flips those flags, and a single restart activates the features, upgrading the device to 25H2 with minimal downtime. Because 24H2 and 25H2 share a servicing branch, they utilize the same codebase and servicing pipeline, which provides annual feature updates with the same efficiency and reliability as monthly updates. That helps reduce package size and installation time, making the transition from 24H2 to 25H2 about as easy as rebooting. The only difference between 25H2 and 24H2 is the support duration. For example, 25H2 Enterprise and Education Windows 11 versions move to a 36-month cycle, while Pro editions follow a 24-month cycle, typical for all Windows 11 24H2 builds. With the 25H2 update, Microsoft is not focusing on significant under-the-hood changes or a visual overhaul, which were common in previous updates. Instead, the emphasis is primarily on security improvements. For instance, Microsoft is removing features like PowerShell 2.0 and Windows Management Instrumentation command-line (WMIC) during installation. These features were previously deprecated due to vulnerabilities to security exploits. Additionally, IT administrators now have the ability to remove pre-installed Microsoft default apps using Group Policy/MDM CSP on Enterprise and EDU devices. If you want 25H2 right away, flip on "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" in Windows Update to move your PC earlier in the staged rollout, but keep in mind Microsoft can delay the update for devices with detected issues (like driver or app incompatibilities) until those are fixed, so it still might not show up immediately. If you'd rather upgrade straight from 24H2 to 25H2, download the enablement package that matches your system architecture from Microsoft's website. With Zero New Features? And I'm going to install windows 11 ltsc on My second computer still :banghead: I know, its almost blasphemy but hey, common sense ain't common. Windows has been done for the better part of 10 years now. I've spend like 2 hours searching how to make it work, but now I just have shared folder from windows 11 pc, and rest can exchange stuff through this folder on 11. Brother had installed with update that stupid AI from Microsoft, and it was making pc slow, after unistalling this AI pc has come back to work normally. MS roll out features gradully during the year in small updates with some of them being disabled by having the feature flag as "off" and then at the end of the year they release a small update called the enablement package changing the version number and fliping the rest of the feature switches to "on" if you compare 24H2 fresh from this time last year to the version of windows now its not the same I did not saw any differences with an offline user. Same multiple reboots for software installs or windows package installs, block installer, fail installer. Same as w95. the boottimes are awful. I doubt it is kc3000 2TB, ryzen 7600x, 2x32Gib hynix a Die realted related. i3wm even with entering unlock password for the kernel is faster. You most likely need the enabler package. I needed it for 23h2 -> 24h2 -> 25h2. It's their own protocol and a clusterfuck year after year for decades. That can't be by mistake, that's an ability. You won't know what's broken or not stable in this 25H2. Proably accumulation of all previous update so no major change in this latest build. Genius! That's the clean way to update to 11. Updating from 10 can lead to various issues. You can uninstall copilot and recall from 24H2 in a few clicks. You can even remove them right at install with an unattend custom file. Doesn't sound like a smart thing to do. That's a risk for every OS update on every platform. Some have managed to brick their systems on camera even without an OS update... There was no enablement package for 24H2. That's always a good advice. Especially since 24H2 will continue receiving security updates. I generally wait about 6 months before moving to a new major version. PowerShell 7.5.3 Sigh. Microsoft's release of Windows 11 version 25H2 is a strategic, incremental update focused on solidifying its position within the enterprise and education markets rather than driving consumer excitement. The update, delivered as a lightweight enablement package, prioritizes security and IT manageability by removing deprecated, vulnerable components like PowerShell 2.0 and giving administrators greater control over pre-installed applications on Enterprise and EDU devices. The most significant development for institutional clients is the extension of the support lifecycle to 36 months for Enterprise and Education versions, a move that reduces the total cost of ownership and enhances operational stability for large organizations. The neutral sentiment score for MSFT (0.1) and low market impact score (0.35) accurately reflect that this is not a major revenue catalyst, but a defensive maneuver to strengthen the Windows platform's competitive moat in high-value commercial segments.
