JPMorgan initiated GlobalData at Neutral with a December 2027 price target of 135 pence, implying about 31% upside from Monday’s close of 103 pence. The bank said the recovery story remains intact, but further share gains depend on evidence that AI and operational investments improve customer retention, pricing power and productivity. Underlying revenue growth slowed to 1% in 2025 and adjusted EBITDA margin fell to about 34% from 41% a year earlier.
This is less a call on near-term fundamentals than a timing call on multiple expansion. For software/data platforms, the market usually pays first for “AI optionality,” then only later for proof that the product layer actually lifts retention and pricing; JPMorgan is effectively saying the first phase is mostly done. That shifts the burden of proof from narrative to operating metrics, which is important because businesses with modest organic growth can rerate sharply on sentiment but tend to give it back fast when execution lags.
The second-order issue is that AI may help the product without meaningfully changing the competitive structure. If AI mainly improves workflow and usability, incumbents with proprietary data get defense, but not necessarily durable acceleration; that caps upside versus higher-quality SaaS names where AI can expand TAM or reduce churn more visibly. The risk is that management spends heavily to modernize the platform while competitors use lower-cost AI features to narrow the usability gap, leaving margin recovery slower than bulls expect.
Catalysts are now binary and medium-dated: the next 2-4 quarters need evidence of improving net retention, sales efficiency, and gross-to-EBITDA leverage. If those don’t show up by the next reporting cycle or two, the stock can de-rate even without a fundamental collapse, because the market has already paid for a recovery in 2026. Conversely, a single quarter of better bookings and stabilizing margins could force a squeeze, since the setup is still populated by investors who bought the recovery story early.
The contrarian read is that the market may be underestimating how hard it is to monetize AI in a mature subscription business. AI can boost customer satisfaction without translating into higher ARPU if buyers treat it as table stakes, not premium functionality. That makes this a better short-vol / relative-value setup than a conviction directional long until proof points emerge.
