Paylocity reported fiscal 2026 revenue of $1.771B (+11.0% YoY) and recurring revenue of $1.651B (+12.2%), alongside GAAP net income of $269.7M (+18.8%) and diluted EPS of $4.92 (+22.4%). Profitability and cash flow strengthened: adjusted EBITDA was $654.9M (37.0% margin) and free cash flow margin was 24.2%, with 120 bps of operating leverage. The company guided fiscal 2027 revenue to $1.880B–$1.895B (+~7%) and adjusted EBITDA to $690M–$700M, while also executing $398.1M of share repurchases in fiscal 2026 (2.8M shares; diluted share count down 3.1%). Results and outlook were supported by AI product rollout (Ignite AI) and acquisitions (Aidora, Grayscale) with AI interactions nearly doubling QoQ, though fiscal 2027 has some caution from subscale acquisitions and a more difficult comp versus one-time tax benefits.

Analysis

PCTY is shifting from a payroll/HCM multiple story to a workflow-automation story, and that matters more than the reported growth rate. The second-order winner is the broker/adviser channel: by avoiding insurance economics, PCTY keeps partners aligned while expanding attach, which should raise win rates versus point solutions and smaller suite vendors that can’t match the distribution + data moat. Over 6-18 months, the real upside is not just more modules, but higher switching costs as AI becomes embedded in compliance-heavy workflows where customers are reluctant to replatform.

Near term, however, the market will need to separate durable operating leverage from optics. A chunk of margin expansion is coming from accounting/policy changes and lower interest-rate assumptions, while client-fund income is likely a headwind as cuts hit; that can cap multiple expansion in the next 1-3 quarters even if the business executes. The key catalyst is whether AI/adjacent SKUs show up in ARPU and net retention, not just demo enthusiasm. If growth remains mostly “existing products + buybacks,” the stock can digest sideways.

Contrarian view: consensus may be over-crediting the AI narrative and under-crediting execution discipline. If the new products are monetized as premium SKUs rather than free feature bait, PCTY can sustain premium gross margins and avoid the usual SaaS trap of innovation without pricing power. Falsifiers: retention slipping below 92%, ARPU growth decelerating sharply, or FY27 revenue growth missing the high-single-digit path as workforce assumptions prove too optimistic.
