Octave Intelligence reported Q2 2026 ARR of $1.143B (+7% organic constant currency) and SaaS revenue of $87M (+21% YoY), with recurring revenue at 69% of total (LTM). Despite improving gross margin to 77% (+260 bps), total revenue was $398M (-1% organic constant currency) due to ~$5M of slipped public safety perpetual deals and management lowered FY total revenue growth guidance to 0%–2% (from a prior 3%–4% range), while maintaining FY ARR growth at 6%–8% ($1.185B–$1.205B). Profitability held with 29% adjusted operating margin and $93M free cash flow (23% margin), but the quarter included $2.135B in non-cash impairments (including $1.7B goodwill) and management cited timing uncertainty in Protect/public safety as the key risk.

Analysis

The market’s real choice here is not whether the current quarter was “good” or “bad,” but whether it wants to pay for a company in the middle of a revenue-model transition before that transition shows up in reported growth. In the next 1-3 months, I expect the stock to trade on the gap between recurring ARR strength and near-flat headline revenue; that usually compresses multiples first, then rewards the name only after the recurring base proves it can carry the P&L on its own.

The second-order issue is that the margin bridge gets noisier as the business shifts to SaaS: lower capitalization lifts reported expense and can make operating leverage look worse even while cash generation improves. That should create a temporary dislocation versus higher-quality software peers, because screens will see slower top-line growth and softer adjusted margin expansion, while the actual cash profile is better than the optics.

Contrarian bull case: the market may be overpricing the timing risk in the lumpy public-sector book and underpricing the installed-base expansion machine. The AI layer is not a monetization story yet; it is a retention and workflow-drag reduction story, which matters more over 6-18 months than over the next quarter. What would break the thesis is not the impairment charge, but evidence that ARR cannot accelerate above the high-single-digits or that Q4 still fails to convert cross-sell into durable subscription growth.
