Zoom Communications: Zoom In To See How Cheap The Stock Is

Zoom (ZM) was reiterated as a “buy,” citing undervaluation and strength in AI-driven growth. Enterprise revenue rose 7.2% (large customers +8%) and non-GAAP operating margin reached 41.1% as AI Companion adoption jumped 184% YoY. Management raised full-year guidance on platform expansion momentum from the AI adoption surge.

Analysis

The important takeaway is not that Zoom is growing, but that it is demonstrating a credible path to being a cash-generating software utility rather than a one-trick pandemic legacy asset. That matters because the market has historically valued ZM as a melting ice cube; if AI features are improving retention and expanding platform usage, the multiple can re-rate even without breakout revenue acceleration. The balance sheet gives management time to keep buying share, investing in product, and avoiding the financing penalty that still hits weaker software names in a higher-rate environment.

The bigger second-order question is monetization. AI Companion adoption is bullish only if it converts into higher seat expansion, lower churn, or premium packaging; otherwise it is just a feature that protects core share against Teams and Webex. In that sense, the nearest read-through is not just ZM versus MSFT, but also the broader collaboration stack: stronger Zoom usage can pressure niche incumbents like RingCentral on integrated communications, while forcing Microsoft to keep bundling aggressively to defend share. If Microsoft’s AI assistant becomes effectively free in M365, Zoom’s upside becomes more about niche verticals and workflow depth than broad enterprise displacement.

Over 1-3 months, the stock likely trades on whether management can keep lifting guidance without a corresponding deterioration in billings quality or operating discipline. Over 6-18 months, the key risk is AI commoditization: if every collaboration vendor offers a similar assistant, Zoom’s premium narrative compresses back to a low-growth cash cow multiple. The thesis is falsified if growth slips back to low-single digits while margins stop expanding; conversely, sustained mid-single-digit revenue growth with 40%+ operating margins would justify further multiple expansion from here.
