This AI connectivity play nearly doubled in 2026. Evercore ISI says it has more room to run

Evercore ISI initiated Credo Technology at outperform with a $325 price target, implying 20% upside from Thursday's close. The firm says Credo's AI-connectivity roadmap could expand its total addressable market to $5B-$10B, up to 20x the current served market, as it broadens from copper to optical solutions. The stock is already up 89% in 2026 and nearly doubled this year, with 20 of 21 analysts covering the name rating it buy or strong buy.

Analysis

This is less a single-product rerating and more a proof that the market is beginning to price Credo as an AI networking platform with optionality across copper and optics. The second-order effect is that every incremental design win in data-center interconnect widens its access to the same budget pool that larger incumbent component vendors rely on, but with a better growth narrative and much higher scarcity value. That tends to compress the discount the market applies to the company’s future TAM expansion, especially when the sell-side is now effectively underwriting a multi-year roadmap rather than a mature endpoint.

The near-term winner is clearly CRDO, but the more interesting competitive pressure is on firms exposed to lower-end interconnect content and slower product cycles. If the market believes optical is becoming an adjacently addressable lane rather than a separate business, suppliers with weaker system-level integration could face multiple compression even without immediate share loss. The supply-chain implication is also meaningful: a shift toward integrated copper-plus-optical architectures should favor vendors that can bundle performance, reliability, and deployment simplicity, while punishing point-solution competitors that depend on price alone.

The main risk is timing mismatch: the stock may be discounting roadmap execution and AI capex durability faster than the products can monetize, which creates vulnerability if hyperscaler spending pauses for even one quarter. In that scenario, the move can reverse sharply because the valuation is now anchored to a longer-dated TAM story rather than current earnings power. My contrarian read is that the consensus may be underestimating how quickly the market can saturate on narrative once a name becomes the obvious “AI interconnect” expression; upside is real, but the next leg likely needs fresh design-win evidence, not just street upgrades.
