The newsletter highlights multiple tech catalysts: Stripe and Advent have offered to buy PayPal for more than $53B, while a power auction is slated to produce $6.3B in new charges for data centers in 13 states. It also flags ongoing AI-driven litigation (Meta allegedly using AI to target workers for layoffs), and fast-moving frontier-AI governance proposals (DeepMind’s CEO calling for a US-led watchdog). Overall, the items are mixed in implication for tech growth and regulatory/energy costs, but no single headline dominates market direction.

Analysis

The tradable signal here is not “AI is exciting” but that AI is starting to surface as a margin and governance tax. META looks most vulnerable because the market is now forced to underwrite heavier AI spend while also pricing litigation and HR-process risk; that combination tends to compress multiples before it hits reported numbers. Over the next 1-3 months, any miss on operating leverage or another legal headline should widen the discount versus peers.

By contrast, GOOGL is the cleaner relative-value long inside the same complex: it has more diversified monetization, better balance-sheet flexibility, and less direct exposure to the kind of workforce controversy that can trigger reputational and settlement overhangs. The more important second-order effect is on the entire AI infrastructure stack: rising power and permitting friction makes “scale at any cost” less attractive, which should eventually favor the most efficient compute buyers and hurt the most capital-intensive builders. That argues for being selective on hyperscalers rather than owning the theme indiscriminately.

PYPL’s M&A chatter is a different animal: if anything, it highlights how much the market doubts the standalone equity story. The contrarian view is that this kind of rumor can create a temporary squeeze, but without a formal process it is not durable value creation; consensus may be overestimating bid probability and underestimating how much embedded merchant-share loss has already happened. Watch for a formal filing, definitive term sheet, or silence; absent that, the rumor is more useful as a sentiment gauge than as investable alpha.
