Anthropic Filed a Confidential S-1 at a $965 Billion Valuation. Here's How to Buy in Right Now.

Anthropic filed confidentially with the SEC on June 1, putting the AI start-up on a path to go public, while KraneShares Artificial Intelligence and Technology ETF already holds about 17,800 Anthropic shares. As of June 17, Anthropic represented 1.4% of the ETF, which has risen more than 27% in 2026 through June 18. The piece is broadly positive for AI exposure and highlights the ETF's access to pre-IPO private companies, but it is mainly informational rather than a direct market catalyst.

Analysis

This is less a direct Anthropic trade than a signaling event for private-markets AI exposure becoming a public-market factor. The immediate winners are the incumbents already embedded in the ETF’s liquid sleeve: NVDA, MSFT, GOOGL, META, and AAPL should all benefit if the IPO cycle re-anchors investor attention on AI monetization rather than just model training spend. The second-order effect is capital rotation: every new private AI listing creates a benchmarking comp set that can re-rate adjacent names, especially if public-market investors start paying up for “AI adjacency” versus current revenue contribution.

The more interesting angle is structure. A private-markets sleeve inside an ETF creates embedded optionality, but also a liquidity mismatch: one or two headline private marks can drive narrative AUM flows even when the ETF’s day-to-day return is still dominated by megacap tech beta. That means the setup is stronger as a sentiment/flows trade than as a pure fundamentals trade. If Anthropic clears filing milestones or lines up a large private secondary, expect a short-lived halo effect across AI baskets; if the IPO is delayed, the entire thesis can fade quickly because the market will revert to pricing the ETF as a concentrated AI factor basket.

The contrarian miss is that the “access” story may be overvalued. Once Anthropic is public, scarcity disappears and some of the perceived premium in AGIX can compress, especially if investors realize the private holdings are still a small NAV contributor relative to listed megacaps. In other words, the best risk-adjusted exposure may be the public AI leaders that actually monetize demand now, not the fund trying to front-run the IPO calendar. The key horizon is weeks to months for the sentiment effect, but years for the underlying AI capex cycle.
