METLEN

METLEN reported H1 2026 record results: revenue rose 11% to €3,987m and EBITDA reached a record €550m (up from €445m). Net profit after minorities increased to €313m (€254m prior) and EPS to €2.18 (€1.81). The company reduced adjusted net debt by €728m, bringing net leverage to 1.7x from 3.1x, while reaffirming 2026 EBITDA guidance of €1.00–1.15bn; shares should react positively to the clear earnings/cash-flow momentum and deleveraging.

Analysis

This is less a headline beat than a balance-sheet reset. The market should care that the business is converting operating cash into a materially lower leverage profile, because that usually compresses credit spread risk and expands the equity multiple before earnings revisions even show up. If the deleveraging is real, METLEN can fund growth internally instead of being forced to choose between capex and credit metrics, which is the main second-order positive here.

The gallium offtake matters more as a signaling event than as near-term P&L. It suggests the company may be moving from a generic industrial story toward a strategic-supply-chain asset with customer concentration that actually helps de-risk expansion capex; that can pull in long-duration capital and improve financing terms. The 0.4GW storage footprint is also important because BESS tends to monetize through platform scale, so the current installed base may be the low-margin setup for a larger recurring revenue stream over 12-24 months.

The main risk is that investors over-celebrate the turnaround before the legacy project cleanup is fully absorbed. If completion costs keep leaking for another quarter or two, the stock can give back gains quickly because this is still a project-execution story, not yet a pure compounder. The contrarian view is that the market may already be discounting the deleveraging while underestimating how much better the earnings quality becomes if guidance is reaffirmed again after the remaining contracts close out cleanly.
