3 Reasons Alphabet Stock Has Investors Buzzing Right Now

Artificial IntelligenceTechnology & InnovationCompany FundamentalsCorporate Guidance & Outlook

Alphabet’s Google Cloud is accelerating with 82% YoY growth to $24.8B revenue, while cloud operating income rose from $2.8B to $8.8B QoQ and a $514B backlog is growing on $50B+ sequential gains. Gemini momentum continues, topping 950M monthly active users and showing a 40% jump in Omni video-creation daily active users, with Gemini Enterprise supporting AI agents and automations. Waymo reached 500,000+ fully autonomous rides per week and is scaling gradually, supporting the longer-term self-driving runway despite continued cash burn.

Analysis

Alphabet is transitioning from a “search multiple” to a bundled AI infrastructure + software + mobility story, and that matters because the market typically pays a higher EV/revenue multiple for durable platform stack breadth than for isolated product wins. The near-term implication is multiple support for GOOGL/GOOG as cloud margin inflection reduces the fear that AI is purely a cost center; however, the stock is now more sensitive to any sign that incremental AI capex stops translating into monetizable workload share.

Competitive spillovers are more interesting than the headline. If Google Cloud keeps taking enterprise AI budgets, the first-order losers are AWS and Azure on growth optics, but the second-order pressure may show up in software names selling adjacent AI agents, observability, and security layers that Alphabet can increasingly bundle internally. On the ad side, stronger Gemini engagement can be bullish for retention, but it also raises the risk that answer-first interfaces compress query monetization over time; that is a 6-18 month issue, not a next-quarter one.

The biggest underappreciated risk is that investors are extrapolating “backlog” as if it were revenue quality. If consumption ramps slower than commitments, the cloud narrative can de-rate quickly, especially if hyperscaler spending slows or enterprise IT budgets tighten. Waymo remains a long-dated option, but the market should not assign near-term earnings power to a business still dominated by regulatory scaling and capital intensity; the catalyst path there is measured in years, while the stock will trade more on search/cloud execution in the next 1-3 months.

Contrarian view: the move may be partially overdone because the bull case stacks multiple optionalities that do not all monetize on the same timeline. The cleanest falsifier is any deceleration in cloud growth or margin expansion, or a guidance update showing AI monetization is lagging AI usage. If that happens, the market will likely reprice GOOG/GOOGL back toward “good operator” instead of “AI compounder,” which would compress the premium quickly.
