Vox Royalty updates on Los Filos gold stream following restart plans

Vox Royalty says Equinox Gold’s 20-year land access agreements at Los Filos are a key de-risking step that could enable a phased restart and unlock up to about 140,000 ounces of annual deliveries to Vox at full run-rate. Approximately 588,000 ounces remain to be delivered under Vox’s stream, which caps at 1.1 million ounces. The update is constructive for Vox’s long-term cash-flow outlook, but near-term market impact should be limited because production restarts still depend on further studies and implementation.

Analysis

VOXR is the cleaner way to express optionality on a Los Filos restart than owning the operator outright: the asset-level de-risking improves the probability-weighted value of a largely fixed contractual stream, while capping its downside to project execution rather than direct operating cost inflation. The market is likely underpricing how convex this is — once a restart is credible, incremental ounces drop through at very high margin because the stream economics are not exposed to the full sustaining-capex burden that will pressure EQX’s equity value.

The second-order winner is probably EQX only if management can finance the restart without stressing the balance sheet; otherwise, the agreements may be value-accretive on paper but dilutive in practice if capital intensity or local opposition re-emerge. The more interesting knock-on effect is for other late-stage gold developers with social-license issues: this reinforces that land access, not geology, is the gating item, so assets with cleaner permitting may command a premium even if grades are inferior.

Consensus risk is time. The market will likely extrapolate a restart narrative months before first production, but technical studies, capex decisions, financing, and ramp-up can easily push cash flows into 2027+ territory. The main reversal path is renewed community friction or a higher gold price assumption that makes the restart look better on paper than in reality, forcing a capital-heavy redesign that pushes the project back again.

The move looks somewhat underdone for VOXR because the stream is a levered call option on a de-risked asset with a long-duration tail, but overdone for EQX if investors start capitalizing implied restart ounces too aggressively before financing is visible. The better contrarian setup is to own the stream and fade the operator until the funding plan is explicit.
