If CoWoS and HBM remain tight, TSM’s utilization and memory ASPs should keep expanding; if hyperscalers slow ordering or inventory builds show up, the whole complex can re-rate lower quickly because the market is paying for uninterrupted capex acceleration. Over 6-18 months, the bigger risk is architectural substitution: custom ASICs, better model efficiency, or eventually photonics can reduce the bandwidth premium and cap the duration of today’s bottlenecks.

The contrarian point is that consensus still treats NVDA as the main equity expression of AI, but the cleaner risk/reward may now sit one layer down in the picks-and-shovels that monetize constraint rather than demand. That said, the scarcity premium is fragile: if HBM lead times or advanced packaging wait times stop tightening, the thesis weakens immediately. The best falsifier is a guide-down on AI-related utilization or a clear deceleration in HBM pricing power.
