SpaceX shares are down more than 7% since their June debut and the article argues the valuation is unsustainable: the stock trades at nearly 100x sales versus $18.7B of 2025 revenue, with the company still posting net losses. The piece expects the stock to close the year closer to ~$100 (down from the $135 debut and far below the ~$200 level cited) citing insider selling after lockups and limited upside at ~2T market cap. It also notes SpaceX raised $25B in investment-grade bonds and its $60B acquisition of AI coding platform Cursor’s parent (Anysphere), but flags execution risk as the main near-term issue.

Analysis

This looks less like a fundamental growth story and more like a classic post-IPO float event where marginal sellers matter more than narrative. When a name is priced for perfection with no near-term earnings anchor, the first real supply overhang can force a much steeper multiple reset than models imply because the buyer base is mostly momentum- and story-driven, not fundamental. The debt layer underneath also matters: once equity is this far out on the risk curve, incremental execution misses get absorbed almost entirely by the common.

The cleanest second-order beneficiary is RKLB, not because it fully replaces the incumbent, but because it captures the “space exposure without absurd duration risk” trade. If SPCX de-rates, the spillover is likely to hit other high-duration, pre-profitability growth names that trade on category scarcity; that can create a temporary but tradeable rotation into better-defined revenue trajectories. The same flow can also cool retail appetite across adjacent speculative names if the IPO loses its halo.

Timing matters: near term, lockup-related selling and insider distribution are the main catalyst, so the pressure window is days to weeks. Over 1-3 months, the stock will be judged on whether monetization inflects fast enough to justify the current multiple; any delay converts valuation risk into balance-sheet risk. The contrarian miss is that scarcity can keep the stock elevated longer than fundamentals justify, so a straight short is best entered only after supply becomes visible; until then, use the setup as an alert rather than chasing the move.

What would falsify the bearish view is a credible earnings/operating inflection or a financing transaction that resets private-market confidence without adding dilution; absent that, the risk/reward remains skewed to downside.
