Why Sandisk Stock Is Soaring Today

SanDisk (SNDK) surged 7.1% by 11:05 a.m. ET and is up over 580% YTD after its investor day forecast through FY2030. The company projects mid-to-high teens revenue growth, ~80% non-GAAP gross margin, ~75% adjusted operating margin, and ~50% FCF margin, plus continued aggressive buybacks using an existing $15.5B authorization for returning excess cash. RBC raised its 1-year target to $1,600 (from $1,300) and JPMorgan reinitiated at Overweight with a $2,250 target, citing NAND memory tailwinds tied to AI inference demand.

Analysis

The key market mechanism is not the long-dated revenue target itself; it is the re-rating from "cyclical memory" toward "capital-return compounder." If management can actually hold free cash flow near the guide while continuing buybacks, the float can shrink fast enough to make EPS momentum look better than the underlying end-market, which is why the stock can keep working even after an extreme year-to-date move. The risk is that those margins are highly path-dependent on NAND pricing and utilization; one or two quarters of softer ASPs would force the market to discount those 2030 numbers aggressively.

Second-order, SNDK can be a read-through for AI infrastructure demand, but the bullish read is more nuanced than "AI helps memory." If inference servers truly need more attached storage and higher-spec memory, NVDA and the broader AI capex complex benefit from richer content per system. But if memory inflation lifts BOM costs too far, hyperscalers will defer deployments or push optimization/quantization harder, which is a headwind to the broader AI trade and not just to SNDK's competitors.

Consensus may be underestimating how much of this is already in the tape after such a large move. The immediate reaction can persist for days as analysts chase targets, but the 1-3 month test is whether channel data and memory pricing confirm the implied margin structure; absent that, the move is likely overdone. Falsifiers: any commentary that buybacks are offsetting dilution rather than reducing share count, or any evidence that NAND supply is normalizing faster than expected.
