The second-order issue is that the market is increasingly treating the Nasdaq-100 as a proxy for AI capex durability rather than broad technology demand. That helps the hardware-heavy winners first, then spills into the semicap and memory supply chain; but it also raises the odds of a sharp unwind if enterprise spend or data-center demand disappoints. MSFT, AAPL, AMZN and GOOGL are the better structural compounders, while the more cyclical names are the ones most likely to see multiple compression once the next rebalance normalizes their weights.

Contrarian view: consensus is probably underestimating how narrow the leadership has become. If rates stay sticky or the next earnings round shows that AI monetization is still lagging capex, QQQ can still rise on flows but with much less breadth and a much higher fragility score. The thesis is falsified if the major tech cohort stops outperforming SPY for several weeks after the next macro print or if guidance from the largest weights fails to confirm accelerating cash-flow conversion.
