Baird initiates Eaton stock with outperform on AI demand growth

Eaton (ETN) is seeing bullish analyst momentum alongside strong results: Q2 2026 adjusted EPS of $3.15 and revenue of $8.5B (record levels) alongside raised full-year guidance. Baird initiated coverage with an Outperform rating and a $500 price target—~20% upside from ~$415—citing AI-driven data center demand (orders ~50% AI in 2025) and readiness for 800VDC. Additional Street actions (Bernstein SocGen, Evercore ISI upgrade, BMO coverage) reinforce an improving margin trajectory and upside tied to expanding AI infrastructure.

Analysis

ETN is becoming a cleaner way to express the AI power-stack trade than the obvious compute names: its earnings leverage comes from the less cyclical, higher-switching-cost parts of the data-center buildout where delays are costly and redesign risk is high. The second-order effect is that as 800VDC adoption moves from pilot to procurement, buyers will likely consolidate around vendors that can bundle power management, switching, and thermal components, which should favor the best-integrated electrical platforms and pressure smaller niche suppliers with narrower catalogs.

Near term, the market may be underappreciating how much of the upside is already in the multiple: the stock will trade more like a high-quality growth compounder than a traditional industrial, so incremental good news can be offset by any hint that order growth normalizes after the current AI capex wave. The biggest reversal risk over the next 1-3 months is not demand collapse but a mix of slower backlog conversion, margin disappointment from capacity expansion, or a rotation out of crowded AI infrastructure beneficiaries if rates back up.

Structurally over 6-18 months, ETN should keep gaining share if AI power density keeps rising, but the consensus may be too confident that every AI order turns into near-term revenue at full margin. If hyperscalers re-spec toward alternative architectures, or if utility interconnect and grid bottlenecks push projects out, ETN’s growth narrative would remain intact but the timing premium would compress. That makes the stock attractive on weakness, but vulnerable if investors keep paying peak-sentiment multiples for execution that still has to catch up.
