Earnings call transcript: PG Electroplast posts record Q1 2026 sales, shares rise 3.5%

PG Electroplast posted Q1 FY2027 revenue of INR 2,034 crore (+35.2% YoY) and net profit of INR 75.3 crore (+12.9% YoY), but EBITDA margin fell to 7.7% (from prior-year levels), dragged by higher copper/aluminum/resin costs and rupee depreciation. Management guided operating FY2027 EBITDA margin to ~8% (ex-incentives) and expects stronger margins in H2 as price pass-through improves. Shares rose 3.51% to $631.15, supported by record room AC revenue (INR 1,401 crore, +38.1% YoY) and rapid washing-machine growth (INR 211 crore, +67.2% YoY), while the company remains net cash (INR 491.3 crore).

Analysis

PG Electroplast is becoming less of a pure AC beta and more of a domestic supply-chain consolidation play. The key second-order effect is that rising outsourcing intensity lets the company monetize brand pressure: when OEMs are forced to protect their own margins, they hand more assembly and component work to EMS partners, which supports volumes even if end-demand only grows mid-teens. That said, the next leg of upside is less about topline and more about mix control; until compressor and refrigerator ramps stabilize, reported margin expansion will lag revenue because the company is absorbing inflation before it can fully reprice.

The main risk over the next 1-3 months is that consensus may extrapolate the revenue run-rate without respecting working-capital strain. Elevated inventory and a still-uncertain pass-through cycle mean cash conversion can deteriorate before margin recovery shows up, especially if commodity prices or the rupee move against them again. A missed festive-season price hike or slower channel drawdown would falsify the near-term bull case and likely force multiple compression despite healthy order commentary.

Contrarian view: the market may be underestimating execution risk in the backward-integration story. A first compressor line can be strategically important yet still be margin-dilutive in the early quarters, so the stock’s upside probably depends more on successful yield/ramp and less on the headline capacity number. Over 6-18 months, if the company actually reduces AC dependence and proves domestic component sourcing, the multiple can re-rate; if not, this remains a capital-intensive growth story with cyclical earnings quality.
