Zebra Technologies’ turnaround narrative strengthened as Q1 revenue rose 14.3% YoY to $1.49B and adjusted gross margin expanded to 50.4% (from 49.6%), while management lifted FY2026 sales growth guidance to 10%–14% and non-GAAP EPS to $18.30–$18.70. UiPath reported Q1 FY2027 revenue of $418.4M (+17.3% YoY) and achieved its third straight quarter of true GAAP profitability (EPS $0.04 vs -$0.04 a year ago), with non-GAAP operating margin scaling to 22% and ARR up 12% YoY to $1.9B. UiPath also announced a $500M share repurchase program after completing $1B of buybacks, supporting a valuation “margin of safety” setup near the lower end of its 52-week range.

Analysis

The cleaner expression here is not “enterprise automation” broadly, but a bifurcation between hardware-enabled workflow capture and software-only orchestration. ZBRA looks better positioned because its demand is tied to a real capex cycle in warehouses, factories, and clinical settings, where delayed refreshes can create a multi-quarter catch-up tailwind. If the installed base is aging, the next 1-3 quarters should show easier comps and better attach rates for higher-margin software/RFID, which can support both margin and multiple expansion.

PATH is more complicated: the market is still pricing it as a product-cycle story, but the real risk is platform competition from Microsoft and ServiceNow, which can bundle automation into broader enterprise stacks and compress standalone RPA pricing. Agentic AI expands the narrative, but it also raises the burden of proof on monetization; if AI agents are mostly a feature rather than a billable SKU, ARR growth may look fine while operating leverage stalls. Over 6-18 months, the key question is whether PATH becomes a durable orchestration layer or gets relegated to niche workflow use cases.

The consensus may be underestimating how much buybacks matter for ZBRA relative to PATH. In a 15x multiple world, capital returns can dominate sentiment when growth is already improving, while PATH’s repurchases may merely offset dilution and buy time for product proof. The trade-off is that ZBRA is more cyclical and vulnerable to a freight/memory cost spike; if channel checks show demand slipping or margins fail to hold, the bull case unwinds quickly. For PATH, the falsifier is simple: if the next 1-2 quarters do not show accelerating AI attach into larger deal sizes, the stock can remain a value trap despite GAAP profitability.
