Bitcoin holds above $60,000 as ETF outflows, Fed outlook weigh on sentiment

Bitcoin rebounded above $60,000, but sentiment remains pressured by seven straight days of U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF outflows, including about $445 million on Friday and roughly $4.06 billion for the month. The token is down 0.25% at $60,273.4 and is on track for a rare second consecutive quarterly loss, while a stronger dollar and expectations for additional Fed rate hikes are weighing on risk assets. Broader crypto trading was mixed, with Ether down 0.12% and BNB down 1.29%, underscoring fragile risk appetite.

Analysis

The market is repricing Bitcoin less as a standalone asset and more as a levered proxy for liquidity, and that is the critical shift. If the dollar continues to firm and rate-cut expectations keep getting pushed out, ETF demand can remain mechanically weak even if spot buyers appear on-chain, because discretionary allocators often wait for macro confirmation rather than trying to catch a falling knife. That creates a setup where price can stay range-bound or drift lower for weeks despite visible whale accumulation.

The second-order effect is that the real stress point is not crypto breadth first, but balance-sheet-linked crypto exposure first. MSTR is the cleanest transmission channel: if BTC fails to reclaim and hold a higher range, the market will start discounting funding flexibility and future dilution capacity before it fully prices any impairment risk. That makes the stock more fragile than spot BTC in the near term, especially if ETF outflows persist and vol rises.

The contrarian signal is that accumulation by larger holders often looks most bullish when it is actually absorptive, not immediately trend-reversing. In prior drawdowns, these regimes tend to last until forced selling exhausts and macro stops deteriorating, which is why the catalyst set matters more than the current price level. A near-term reversal likely needs either stabilization in ETF flows or a softer dollar/rates backdrop; otherwise any bounce above $60k is more likely to be sold than chased.

For the broader digital-asset complex, the market is also underappreciating regulatory optionality. Even modest progress on legislation could matter disproportionately because it would help separate native crypto adoption from macro risk trade behavior, but that is a months-long catalyst rather than a days-long one. Until then, the tape should continue to trade as a risk-off asset with weak institutional sponsorship.
