Earnings call transcript: Saatvik Green Energy posts weak Q1 2026 on lower volumes

Saatvik Green Energy reported Q1 FY27 revenue from operations of INR 5,110m, down 44.2% YoY and 68.2% QoQ, with EBITDA at INR 425m (8.33% margin) and PAT at INR 54m (down 95.4% YoY). The stock fell 3.24% to $427.4 as production dropped to 408MW (vs 935MW in Q4 FY26) while management chose to be selective on lower-margin/volume orders amid geopolitical, raw-material and FX pressures plus ALMM-related regulatory uncertainty. Despite weak prints, management pointed to a 6.35GW order book (~INR 8,200m) and guided FY27 to sales volume of 3.5–4.0GW and ~12% EBITDA margin, expecting margin improvement in 2H FY27 once Odisha cell manufacturing ramps (ALMM inspection in September; 80% utilization targeted by Q4 FY27).

Analysis

The important signal is not the weak quarter itself; it is management admitting the current model is being rationed by pricing discipline. In a commoditized module market, selectively walking away from low-contribution work is rational only if the next stage of integration actually lands, otherwise it is simply share loss to better-capitalized rivals and a forced consolidation event for weaker domestic assemblers and EPCs that depend on spot procurement.

The real winner set is not the module makers, but integrated solar platforms with captive cell/wafer access and ancillary control: they can defend margin when input volatility and regulatory churn hit, and they can win share when customers need compliant supply rather than the cheapest panel. That also creates second-order pressure on transformer, inverter, and encapsulant suppliers, which should see stronger pull-through if project developers increasingly bundle domestic content and performance guarantees.

Consensus is likely over-indexing on the order book and underappreciating conversion quality. The next 1-3 months matter more than the backlog headline: if the cell ramp is delayed or yields disappoint, leverage plus capex turns this into a financing and working-capital story; if the ramp hits on time, the stock can re-rate sharply because the market will start discounting 2H FY27 margin inflection rather than 1Q weakness. Falsifier: ALMM/inspection slippage, utilization stuck below 50% into Q4, or FY27 margin guidance being cut.
