This chip equipment giant has outperformed in 2026. Bank of America sees even more gains

Bank of America raised its price target on ASML to $2,345, implying nearly 22% upside, while reiterating a buy rating. The bank expects orders to remain strong through 2027, supported by next-gen EUV demand, higher DRAM lithography intensity, and AI-driven semiconductor growth. Shares are already up 80% year to date, and the next earnings report is scheduled for July 15.

Analysis

The market is increasingly treating ASML less like a cyclical capital-goods name and more like a toll booth on the AI memory upgrade cycle. If lithography intensity is stepping up in DRAM, the second-order winner is not just ASML’s orderbook but the entire high-bandwidth memory ecosystem, because tighter process requirements raise the barrier to entry and push share toward the few suppliers capable of leading-edge capex. That usually widens the gap between “capacity owners” and “capacity providers”: foundry and memory customers may see near-term margin pressure, but ASML should capture the pricing power.

The key risk is not demand but digestion. When an orderbook is “full” multiple years out, the stock can become hostage to any hint of timing slippage, customer mix changes, or lower utilization at the end customer, because investors are effectively capitalizing 2027+ visibility today. A 22% implied upside looks attractive only if lead times hold and the industry doesn’t move from scarcity to overbuild; historically, the inflection point comes months before reported revenue, when wafer starts and capex guidance start to roll.

Consensus is probably underestimating how crowded the bullish narrative is. With essentially universal buy ratings, the market is already long the good news, so incremental upside likely comes from the magnitude of AI-driven EUV intensity rather than multiple expansion. That makes the setup asymmetric around the next print: a strong order commentary can squeeze shorts and systematic underweights, but any moderation in bookings or 2027 visibility could de-rate the stock quickly even if fundamentals remain solid.

The cleaner contrarian expression may be in the suppliers and beneficiaries downstream, not in buying ASML outright after an 80% YTD move. The semiconductor equipment complex could still rerate on the same thesis, but ASML’s valuation now prices in a high bar for execution; relative-value and options structures likely offer better payoff than unhedged long-only exposure.
