The near-term signal to watch is budget discipline, not technology adoption. If enterprises are already shifting to cheaper models or throttling usage, the first-order losers are the most compute-intensive names, while the second-order losers are the equipment and memory suppliers that get hit later through capex deferrals and inventory digestion. MSFT and AAPL are comparatively better insulated because their earnings power is more recurring and less exposed to a single procurement cycle, but they can still face multiple compression if AI monetization lags the spend curve.

Contrarianly, the market may be underpricing how crowded this theme has become inside passive vehicles. When leadership is concentrated in a few mega-caps, good news can already be in the price, while any sign of slower AI ROI can hurt the ETF more than the index because breadth deteriorates before fundamentals do.
