Bloom Energy has rallied nearly 275% in 2026, lifting its market cap to about $93 billion as investors price in AI data center power demand. First-quarter revenue rose 130.4% year over year to $751.1 million, with gross margin at 30% and operating cash flow of $73.6 million, while backlog reached roughly $20 billion combined. The bullish setup is tempered by rich valuation at nearly 38x trailing sales and heavy customer concentration, with two customers accounting for about 62% of Q1 revenue.
The market is starting to re-rate BE less as an industrial equipment vendor and more as a pre-permitted, behind-the-meter power utility for AI campuses. That matters because the bottleneck in AI infrastructure is shifting from chip availability to time-to-power, and any supplier that can compress deployment from quarters to weeks earns an option-like premium on capacity. The second-order beneficiary set is broader than BE: ORCL and large colo/infra operators gain project certainty, while gas turbine and diesel backup providers lose share at the margin if Bloom’s emissions and water profile keeps winning site approvals.
The catch is that the current valuation already discounts a multi-year conversion of pipeline into contracted megawatts, so the stock becomes highly sensitive to any slippage in conversion timing, financing, or performance guarantees. The concentration math is uncomfortable: when two relationships drive a meaningful share of revenue, the market is effectively underwriting execution on a handful of megaprojects rather than a diversified demand base. That creates a path-dependent setup where the next 1-2 quarters can still look excellent on backlog and bookings, but a single project delay could compress the multiple before fundamentals have a chance to catch up.
Consensus is probably underestimating how much of the upside has migrated from BE equity into the ecosystem. BAM and AEP can absorb some of the structural AI power spend with lower idiosyncratic risk and more diversified cash flows, while ORCL benefits if onsite power unlocks faster cluster deployment without bearing the same concentration risk. The contrarian read is that BE may be the right technology at the wrong price: the story is real, but the equity may already be pricing in several years of flawless scaling and minimal customer churn.
