Elon Musk's Boring Company Is Raising Money at a $20 Billion Valuation. Here's How His Empire Outside Tesla Is Growing.

The Boring Company is reportedly in talks to raise about $4B in a private offering at a ~$20B valuation, up nearly fourfold from its 2022 pricing of $5.7B, as the Las Vegas Loop plans to expand toward Harry Reid International Airport and target annual ridership of 5M–10M. Neuralink says its BCI is implanted in 21 patients (from 12) and targets $1B in annual revenue by 2031, contingent on FDA approval. Separately, Elon Musk’s personal purchase of APR Energy for over $1B positions it to serve data centers needing fast power while waiting for grid connections, though the Vegas Loop faces Nevada environmental regulator enforcement.

Analysis

This reads less like a direct equity catalyst and more like a capitalization-rate check on Musk optionality. Private marks can inflate on narrative, but public investors should ask whether any of these assets produce cash flow that can be consolidated into TSLA or another listed vehicle within 12 months; the answer still looks like no. That means the main market effect is not upside to the ecosystem, but a governance/multiple overhang on TSLA if investors keep assigning value to non-core ventures that remain structurally separated.

The clearest second-order beneficiary is the temporary-power / distributed-generation chain, not semis or EVs. If AI and data-center buildouts stay grid-constrained, the fastest monetization goes to companies that can ship MW in weeks rather than years; that favors rental generators, switchgear, and engine-driven backup systems such as PSIX-style proxies more than long-cycle utility assets. By contrast, NVDA is a downstream beneficiary only if power bottlenecks ease; otherwise the constraint shifts capex from chips to infrastructure, which can cap near-term upside in the hardware stack.

Neural interface commercialization is a multi-year regulatory story, so the stock impact window is long and binary. The market is likely overestimating strategic value to TSLA and underestimating execution drag: FDA timing, reimbursement, and product liability are all gating items that can push meaningful revenue beyond the current planning horizon. The contrarian read is that the headline cluster is more about option value than fundamentals, so the tradeable opportunity is in the collateral beneficiaries of power scarcity rather than the Musk brand premium itself.
