ComparisonA strategy-team scouting platform next to an investment-desk research system

AllMind vs CB Insights

AllMind is an AI research system for institutional investors, holding licensed market content and a firm’s own systems in one ontology. CB Insights sells predictive intelligence on private companies and technology markets to corporate strategy, venture and competitive-intelligence teams. The split is which department the seat is for.

The short version
01
AllMind
AI research system for institutional investors

Agents run one question across filings, estimates, broker research, Expert Insights, live earnings, market and alternative data, private-company and M&A records, and the firm’s own systems, then return a cited model, memo or deck.

02
CB Insights
Predictive intelligence on private companies and tech markets

The case for it is the private-company record and the scoring layer on top. It states 12M+ company profiles and 1,600+ ranked technology markets, with Mosaic scores, exit probability, patents and eleven named agents.

03
How to choose
Ask which team is buying the seat

Choose CB Insights when a strategy, venture or competitive-intelligence function is scouting startups and technology markets. Choose AllMind when a research desk has to turn many sources into a defensible piece of work.

At a glance

Feature by feature

CB Insights is deeper on private companies, startups and technology markets. AllMind is deeper on the content an investment desk reads and on what happens after the lookup. Read these rows as two different buyers rather than one product beating another.

CB Insights marks come from pages on cbinsights.com opened August 31 2026: the data catalog, the platform and API pages, Team of Agents, ChatCBI, the pricing page, Who We Serve, the April 2026 product update and the additional terms that publish the ChatCBI message allowance. Coverage counts on those pages are vendor marketing and are treated as company-stated. “Not documented” means the capability could not be confirmed in a source we could open, not that CB Insights lacks it. AllMind marks come from its own product pages and public data catalog, August 2026.

Where AllMind leads

What AllMind adds next to a startup and tech-market database

01Two different reading lists

A strategy database does not carry what an investment desk reads

CB Insights was built for the corporate side of the table. Its own audience list names corporate strategy, corporate venture capital, M&A, innovation, product strategy, sales and business development, and venture capital. Its published data catalog carries no broker research, no analyst estimate revisions and no exchange market data, because those functions do not ask for them.

AllMind ships that content as built-in classes. Aftermarket broker research is included in the seat on a delay that varies by broker, while live embargoed research runs on the firm’s own research-management entitlement. Expert Insights transcripts sit beside it, so a desk reads expert calls without holding an expert-network contract. Live earnings and financials land within minutes, over S&P Global and Capital IQ content, FactSet fundamentals, LSEG I/B/E/S estimates, MSCI data, filings from SEC and SEDAR+, and what AllMind states is 40+ exchange and venue feeds.

02Coverage lists, not company pages

The unit of work on a research desk is a list, not a target

CB Insights answers one company at a time, and that is the correct shape for sourcing. The Strategy Terminal, ChatCBI and the eleven named agents are all pointed at a target: a scouting report on one startup, a SWOT, a commercial due-diligence pack, a competitor brief.

A research desk works the other way, across a universe it already owns. AllMind’s Grids take a coverage list and fill a column for every name at once, and its automations run the same brief across many companies, with AllMind stating that a single automation can reach as many as 200. The run then ends in something a committee can read: an Excel model carrying live DCF, LBO and comps formulas, a Word memo, or a deck built from one of 20+ investment-bank templates. CB Insights publishes no equivalent production step.

03The half you already own

Your own files never enter a strategy database

CB Insights moves its data outward. Its published routes are an API, availability inside Snowflake, a Salesforce CRM connector, a Microsoft 365 Copilot connector, and MCP connectors reaching Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot and Perplexity. A firm’s own material enters only as a file uploaded into a chat.

AllMind runs the connection in both directions. Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift and S3 attach under scoped roles and are queried where they sit, Google Drive, SharePoint and OneDrive folders sync into a Data Room, and research-management systems such as Verity, FactSet RMS and BipSync connect alongside them. Those inputs join the licensed corpus inside one ontology, and the governance travels with them: agents inherit per-user entitlements, can never widen them, and every access is logged.

In fairness

Where CB Insights is strong

CB Insights is better than AllMind at the job it was built for, and the gap is not narrow. It states 12M+ double-verified company profiles and 1,600+ ranked technology markets, with private-company revenue estimates, cap-table history, valuations, and incomplete deals labeled as rumored, pending or canceled. Its April 2026 update claims the largest global equity-deal coverage. None of that has an AllMind equivalent.

The predictive layer is further ahead still. Mosaic scores, Commercial Maturity, M&A and IPO probability, Customer Sentiment and the Funding Window are shipped products trained on its own record, and the business-relationship graph names a private company’s customers, partners and vendors. Add patent filings with topic modeling, analyst market maps, and eleven named agents reachable from four third-party assistants. For a team whose week starts with scouting private companies, that is the right purchase.

The platforms

One is built for the strategy function, the other for the research desk

01

AllMind

AI research system for institutional investors

AllMind licenses 6,800+ premium datasets from 100+ providers and partners: S&P Global and Capital IQ content, FactSet fundamentals and Revere relationships, LSEG I/B/E/S estimates and private-markets data, MSCI, exchange feeds, filings, broker research, Expert Insights, live news and newswires from thousands of sources worldwide, global investor-relations content and alternative data, held with the firm’s own systems in one ontology.

Agents traverse that ontology instead of searching it, runs go long, and every figure is traceable to the passage that produced it.

02

CB Insights

Predictive intelligence on private companies and tech markets

CB Insights is a privately held New York company selling predictive intelligence on private companies and technology markets. Its Strategy Terminal combines company profiles and ranked markets with proprietary scores, a business-relationship graph, patents, curated news and analyst research.

It has taken little outside capital: a $10 million Series A in November 2015 after $1.15 million of National Science Foundation grants, and it bought Dow Jones’s VentureSource data assets in July 2020.

Strengths and trade-offs

What each one is good at, and what it costs you

Every CB Insights line below traces to a page on cbinsights.com opened August 31 2026, or to Vendr’s procurement data. Both trade-off lists are scope limits rather than defects, which is what happens when two products are built for different departments.
01

AllMind

Strengths
  • One ontology holds licensed content, private-market records and the firm’s connected systems together
  • Broker research and Expert Insights transcripts ship as built-in content classes
  • Filings, I/B/E/S estimates, live earnings and exchange data on the same desk as the private-company file
  • Warehouses read in place under scoped roles, with Drive, SharePoint and OneDrive folders syncing into Data Rooms
  • Excel models with live formulas, Word memos, and decks from 20+ investment-bank templates
  • SOC 2 Type II since November 2025, agents inherit per-user entitlements, and every access is logged
Trade-offs
  • No fund-level returns, IRR, TVPI or vintage benchmark data
  • Not a live trading or execution terminal
  • No self-serve checkout and no monthly plan, so a non-institutional user is better served elsewhere
  • Real depth means connecting internal systems, which is a data conversation rather than a signup
02

CB Insights

Strengths
  • The private-company and startup record, with revenue estimates, valuations and cap-table history
  • Predictive scores and probabilities that no reasoning layer can reconstruct from documents
  • 1,600+ ranked technology markets, ESP scorecards, leaderboards and analyst market maps
  • Patent, news and media signals attached to the same company profiles
  • Eleven named agents plus ChatCBI inside the Strategy Terminal, mobile app and browser extension
  • MCP connectors putting its data inside four third-party assistants, announced March and April 2026
Trade-offs
  • No broker research, analyst estimates or exchange market data for a listed-equity desk
  • ChatCBI is capped at 150 messages per authorized user per month, enforced annually
  • Your own files enter only as chat uploads; there is no warehouse read or governed data room
  • No fund-level performance benchmarks documented, only fund overviews and cap-table history
Pricing

What AllMind and CB Insights actually cost

Neither side has a public rate card, so what follows is sorted by how well each figure is evidenced. CB Insights does publish one hard commercial term, which is unusual and worth reading before a renewal. Every dollar figure below is a labeled estimate, and none of it is a list price.
01

AllMind

Quote-based, nothing published

AllMind publishes no rate card. It sells through a sales conversation only: no self-serve checkout, no monthly plan, and a retail or otherwise non-institutional buyer would be better served by a self-serve tool. Nothing about seats, tiers or usage is published, so this page states no AllMind dollar figure at all.

CB Insights

Three products, all priced on request

CB Insights lists Browser Analyst, Strategy Terminal and Data Solutions, and each one carries a request button rather than a number. One commercial term is published in full, though: its additional terms put a hard message allowance on ChatCBI. The dollar figures below come from procurement data, not from CB Insights.

Decision note

What changes the quote

CB Insights meters on authorized users and on which of the three products a team buys, then layers a ChatCBI message tier on top. Its own terms say higher message tiers are sold separately, so the assistant behaves as a line item rather than an included feature, and reaching the data from a third-party assistant needs the Data Solutions subscription.

AllMind states only that pricing is quote-based. The honest comparison here is one published usage cap against no published meter at all.

Three cautions. The Vendr page showed no purchase count and no visible last-updated date when it was read, so treat the band as directional rather than current. It prices a whole contract, which is not the same thing as a seat. And because AllMind publishes no figure at all, nothing in this section is a like-for-like price comparison; the usable signal is the shape of each meter, not the numbers.

By the job

Which one you want, task by task

Four jobs, and the mechanism that settles each one. Two of them belong to CB Insights outright, and one needs both products in the room.
CB Insights

Map the agentic-commerce market, rank who is executing, and shortlist three partnership conversations for next quarter.

This is what CB Insights built: ranked technology markets, ESP scorecards, market maps and a business-relationship graph. AllMind carries no equivalent market-ranking product and should not pretend otherwise.

CB Insights

Score private acquisition targets in industrial IoT, then check each one’s customers, vendors and likelihood of raising again.

Mosaic scores, M&A probability, the Funding Window and the relationship graph decide this one. AllMind has the private-company profiles and financing records, but not the proprietary scoring layer sitting on top of them.

Run both

A listed acquirer is building a venture arm. We need its filings and broker coverage, its deal history, the private targets it is circling, and one memo for the strategy committee.

CB Insights is stronger on the private targets and their scores. AllMind joins the filings, estimates, broker research and the firm’s own prior work, then writes the cited memo. Neither half is optional here.

AllMind

Refresh the models on 45 listed names and have the weekly note drafted before Monday’s open, off everything published over the weekend.

The decider is production rather than lookup: an automation reads the weekend’s filings, transcripts and entitled broker research and drafts into the house format. CB Insights carries none of that content.

The bottom line

AllMind and CB Insights are bought by different functions: AllMind for the desk that has to produce the work, or CB Insights for the team scouting what comes next.

CB Insights wins when the question is which private companies and technology markets matter, and the answer is a scouting report, a market map or a target list.

AllMind wins when the question spans the public file, licensed research, private-market records and the firm’s own systems, and the answer has to be a cited model, memo or deck. Firms running both usually keep CB Insights for sourcing and consolidate the research stack onto AllMind.

FAQ

AllMind vs CB Insights, answered

Only if the job is investment research; for startup scouting and technology-market intelligence, CB Insights is the better tool and AllMind does not replace it. AllMind is built for institutional research desks and carries private-company profiles and financials, PE and VC rounds, investors and M&A records alongside filings, estimates, broker research, Expert Insights, market data and the firm’s own systems.

What it carries no equivalent for is CB Insights’ predictive scoring, patent analytics and ranked technology markets. Teams that need both usually keep CB Insights for sourcing.
