These are the most overbought stocks after a volatile week

Hewlett Packard Enterprise was among the week's most overbought stocks, with a 14-day RSI of 73 after a 14% weekly gain driven by a large earnings beat. HPE reported adjusted EPS of 79 cents on $10.68 billion in revenue versus consensus for 53 cents and $9.79 billion, and Loop Capital raised its price target to $75 from $23. Fortinet also stayed overbought with an RSI of 76 after rising nearly 5% on the week, while Host Hotels and Resorts and Humana ended with RSIs of 79 and 77.

Analysis

The key signal here is not just earnings quality, but the market’s willingness to re-rate “boring” infrastructure names into AI monetization vehicles. HPE’s move suggests investors are now paying for second-order exposure to inference spend, where the winners are likely to be systems integrators and networking vendors rather than the most expensive model-layer names. That creates a short-term rotation tailwind for adjacent hardware and cybersecurity beneficiaries, but also increases the odds of a crowded long base that can unwind quickly if guidance fails to accelerate in the next 1-2 quarters.

The more interesting read-through is competitive: HPE’s outperformance raises the hurdle for peers to prove they are not just benefiting from a one-off capex pocket. If commercial inference spending is truly inflecting, the next winners should be the names with the highest attach rates to server refresh, storage, and secure edge deployment; if not, this becomes a classic post-earnings squeeze that fades once RSI normalizes. Fortinet’s strength looks more positioning-driven than fundamentals-driven, which makes it vulnerable to any broad tech de-risking or to a reversal in AI infrastructure enthusiasm.

From a risk perspective, this is a days-to-weeks setup more than a multi-quarter trend unless next commentary confirms sustained backlog conversion. The contrarian issue is that overbought signals in a risk-on tape can stay overbought longer than expected, so fading strength too early is dangerous; however, the asymmetry improves if the next catalyst is simply a sector rotation out of high-beta tech after the recent market wobble. Humana and Host Hotels also show that investors are reaching for laggards with idiosyncratic upside, but those moves look more like factor rotation than fundamental conviction.
