FLEX REPORTS SECOND QUARTER FISCAL 2027 RESULTS
Source: PR Newswire
Flex reported Q2 FY2027 sales of $8.5 billion, up 25% year over year, and adjusted EPS of $1.18 versus $0.79 a year earlier; GAAP EPS was $0.70. It raised FY2027 guidance to $34.9 billion–$35.9 billion in sales and $4.84–$5.16 adjusted EPS, with midpoint growth of 27% and 52%, respectively. Flex said its EPC Power acquisition is expected to be immediately accretive in fiscal 2027 and reiterated plans to spin off its Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment.
Analysis
The key signal is not the sales growth alone but the mix: management’s segment outlook implies sharply different growth and profitability profiles, with Cloud and Power Infrastructure (CPI) carrying substantially higher expected growth and margins than RMS + ITS. That supports a potential sum-of-the-parts rerating ahead of the spin, but the FY27 consolidated guide explicitly excludes the separation’s effects. Investors should not capitalize the current earnings run rate onto either post-spin company without standalone cost, debt, and cash-flow disclosures.
Earnings quality is the main counterweight. The GAAP/non-GAAP operating-income gap includes $110m of quarterly “legal and other” costs, primarily separation and acquisition expenses. Some costs may be genuinely transitional, but repeated exclusions can make adjusted EPS a poor proxy for distributable cash during a complex separation. Six-month FCF remains well below the prior-year period despite the earnings step-up; higher capex and $85m of separation costs explain part, not necessarily all, of the shortfall. Inventory and receivables have also expanded since March, so cash conversion and customer demand cadence matter as much as reported EPS.
Near term, the raised outlook can support the stock if the call validates CPI demand and spin execution. Over 1–3 months, watch standalone financial disclosures, separation timing/costs, and working-capital conversion. Over 6–18 months, a cleaner infrastructure-focused valuation is possible, but customer concentration, cyclical program ramps, and acquisition integration could reverse it. Data-center infrastructure peers such as Vertiv may benefit from sustained power/cooling investment, while other contract manufacturers could face tougher competition for capacity and programs; the release alone does not establish share gains. Contrarian read: the headline EPS growth may overstate cash earnings momentum, while the market may also underappreciate the value of separating businesses with materially different profiles.

Key Decisions for Investors
- Do not chase the headline before the conference call. Consider a small, staged long in FLEX only if management confirms CPI demand visibility, the spin timeline, and no deterioration in customer commitments; trim or avoid if guidance relies on short-cycle ramps without backlog support.
- Treat the separation as a catalyst, not yet a valuation floor. Request standalone segment cash flow, stranded-cost estimates, debt allocation, and pro forma share count before underwriting a sum-of-the-parts target; the current FY27 guide is pre-spin.
- Set a cash-conversion alert: reassess the long thesis if the next quarter shows inventory/receivables rising faster than sales or FCF failing to improve after separation costs normalize. Also monitor capex and acquisition-related cash needs against debt.
- For a relative-value watchlist, compare FLEX’s post-call performance and disclosed program wins with Jabil and Sanmina, and monitor Vertiv as a demand read-through for data-center power/cooling. Do not assume direct share transfer absent evidence of customer or program displacement.
