Anthropic caught Chinese AI labs carrying out massive ‘distillation attack' to rip off its technology

Anthropic said it detected and shut down large-scale attempts by Chinese AI labs Alibaba, Moonshot and DeepSeek to use Claude to train their own AI models. The incident highlights escalating competitive and security risks around model distillation, unauthorized AI-system use and US-China technology rivalry, though Anthropic said the activity was contained.
