Intel and Micron lead our portfolio higher, and J&J's strengthens our case for owning it
Source: CNBC
The S&P 500 rose about 1% as the 10-year Treasury yield fell roughly 6bps to 4.95%, below 5%, extending the post-Fed rally despite WTI crude recovering to around $102 per barrel. AI-infrastructure names led gains, with Intel up more than 9%, Micron up over 5%, and Eaton higher after signaling it is tracking toward the high end of guidance and reporting stronger-than-expected performance from Boyd Thermal. Johnson & Johnson's CFO said the company could exceed its 5%-7% 2025-30 sales-growth target and sees a path to double-digit growth in coming years, while Salesforce fell about 2% amid profit-taking after no long-term target update at Dreamforce.
Analysis
The decline in long-end yields is more consequential for duration-sensitive AI infrastructure than for broad equities: it lowers the discount-rate headwind while data-center capex remains the earnings driver. ETN has the cleanest near-term monetization through power distribution and thermal-management attach rates; MU is a higher-beta expression but remains exposed to memory pricing and inventory normalization. INTC’s foundry narrative is strategically valuable but should not command a peer-like AI multiple until external wafer commitments, utilization and gross-margin recovery are independently visible.
ETN’s thermal acquisition creates a second-order opportunity: liquid cooling shifts data-center spending from semiconductors alone toward electrical architecture, UPS, switchgear and heat rejection. That favors ETN and, outside the named universe, Vertiv (VRT), while potentially reducing the relative scarcity premium assigned to pure-play accelerator suppliers as the AI spend basket broadens. The key 1-3 month catalyst is hyperscaler capex guidance; a weaker industrial-production print would matter less than any evidence that utility/interconnect constraints are delaying data-center project starts.
JNJ’s upside case depends on converting pipeline and launch commentary into earnings durability through upcoming investor-day guidance. A successful oral-therapy launch can expand treated populations, but that is not equivalent to durable pricing power; payer access, persistence and gross-to-net trends are the relevant quarterly proof points. The market may be underpricing JNJ’s medium-term medtech optionality, but robotic surgery should be valued as a 6-18 month adoption call option rather than near-term EPS support.
CRM’s lack of a raised long-term framework is a useful positioning signal: AI product enthusiasm will not sustain the stock if monetization is absorbed by implementation costs or customers consolidate software budgets. With elevated post-results positioning, downside can emerge quickly on a billings or remaining-performance-obligation deceleration even if headline AI demand remains healthy.

Key Decisions for Investors
- Initiate a 1-3 month long ETN / short INTC pair, sized beta-neutral. ETN offers nearer-term data-center revenue conversion; INTC faces execution, capital-intensity and foundry-utilization risk. Exit if ETN lowers backlog or margin expectations, or if INTC discloses a material external foundry win with credible volume economics.
- Maintain MU as a tactical long only through the next memory-pricing and hyperscaler-capex readouts; use a 7-10% trailing risk limit. Upside requires continued HBM tightness and improving DRAM/NAND contract pricing; reduce on evidence of customer inventory rebuilding rather than end-demand growth.
- Accumulate JNJ on weakness ahead of the investor day for a 6-18 month defensive-growth allocation, but do not underwrite robotic-surgery revenue in near-term estimates. Falsification: guidance fails to support above-baseline growth, or launch metrics show weak refill/payer conversion rather than genuine market expansion.
- Use CRM strength to buy 3-6 month downside protection or trim tactical exposure. The risk/reward is asymmetric until management demonstrates AI-related net-new ARR and margin leverage; re-add only after billings/RPO acceleration or a quantified upgrade to the long-term operating framework.
