This field guide is based on public product documentation and regulatory sources checked on August 30, 2026. It explains how to design and accept an AllMind workflow using a buyer-owned source-to-report record.

Start with the artifact AllMind should produce

An institutional research workflow is easier to govern when the team defines the finished artifact before connecting sources. For a quarterly coverage refresh, that artifact might be a house-formatted earnings review that contains:

  • the reported results and guidance changes;
  • management's current explanation of the quarter;
  • the desk's prior assumptions and thesis markers;
  • relevant entitled broker views;
  • a citation that opens the supporting document for every material claim; and
  • a named reviewer and completion state.

That specification tells AllMind what the workflow must assemble. It also prevents the source decision from collapsing into a debate about which corpus is largest. The useful question is which evidence belongs in this report, which user may access it, how it maps to the issuer and period, and whether a reviewer can reopen it.

Build the authorized evidence set in AllMind Data Rooms

An AllMind Data Room gives the workflow a defined analysis universe. A team can create one room per company, deal, or project and populate it with selected filings, earnings transcripts, uploaded documents, synced folders, and connected warehouse data. Questions asked in that room are scoped to the material the team selected, and the resulting answers cite the documents used.

The rights record belongs beside the evidence record. Public access does not automatically grant unrestricted reuse, and a broker-research connector does not expand the user's underlying entitlement. The US Copyright Office's copyright-protection FAQ distinguishes facts from protected expression, while FINRA Rule 2241 governs research-report practices for FINRA members. Each firm should translate the rules and its agreements into the source policy applied to its AllMind workspace.

Official records remain valuable inside this combined workflow. The SEC's data.sec.gov APIs provide submissions metadata and XBRL facts without authentication, and automated clients must observe the SEC's rate-control policy. AllMind's role is to let those records be researched beside entitled and internal evidence while preserving a route back to the underlying document.

Use the AllMind ontology to keep the research joined

Documents do not arrive with a single clean identity. An issuer may have multiple securities, renamed subsidiaries, restated periods, counterparties, and segment labels. The same company can appear under a ticker, legal name, brand, or former name. A source-linked answer is still dangerous if it joins the wrong entity, period, currency, or unit.

The AllMind financial ontology encodes financial entities, relationships, evidence, and entitlements as connected objects. In the coverage-refresh workflow, that layer supplies the join between the company, its securities, its documents, the people making statements, and the internal research attached to the name.

Before the first run, the team should pin four identity rules:

  1. the issuer and security identifiers covered by the artifact;
  2. the fiscal period and as-of timestamp;
  3. the currency, units, and restatement treatment; and
  4. the subsidiaries, peers, suppliers, or customers that may enter the analysis.

Those rules make the research reproducible at the level that matters to an analyst. A reviewer sees not only the cited passage, but also why that passage was treated as evidence about this company and this reporting period.

AllMind Document Search is the verification surface in this workflow. It provides keyword, semantic, Ask AI, and Deep Dive modes across SEC and SEDAR filings, earnings transcripts, broker research subject to firm entitlements, IR presentations, and news. Results open the source document at the relevant passage.

Use each mode for a distinct research action:

  • Keyword search locates an exact term, covenant, KPI label, or quoted phrase.
  • Semantic search finds related language when management changes its wording.
  • Ask AI returns a direct answer with sources for a bounded question.
  • Deep Dive investigates a question across a larger document set.

For an earnings review, the analyst might first find every current-period reference to pricing, then compare the language with the preceding call, then ask which entitled broker notes changed an estimate after the release. Each material conclusion should be opened at the cited passage before it moves into the report.

That review pattern follows the provenance principles in NIST's Generative AI Profile: document the sources and rights, verify citations, and check that retrieved evidence supports the output. In AllMind, the citation is the path from synthesis back to the original language the reviewer needs to inspect.

Turn reviewed evidence into an AllMind Report

The research becomes operational when it reaches AllMind Reports. Reports can start from a house template, a premade format, or a custom outline. It drafts earnings reviews, investment memos, comps analyses, credit notes, and company primers, with claims cited to underlying documents.

For the coverage-refresh artifact, define the outline before generation:

  1. reported results versus the desk baseline;
  2. guidance and material language changes;
  3. management explanation and contested points;
  4. external research views from authorized sources;
  5. implications for the internal thesis; and
  6. questions requiring analyst follow-up.

The analyst then reviews the draft as a research artifact, not as an isolated answer. Numbers must tie to the cited period and unit. Attributions must point to the correct speaker or publication. Conflicts between the filing, call, broker note, and internal model should remain visible until the analyst resolves them. Once accepted, the same structure can be reused for the next quarter or applied across the coverage list.

This is the proof artifact for the pilot: one finished report plus its source packet, not a feature checklist or a collection of impressive answers.

Accept the AllMind pilot with a source-to-report record

Use a single acceptance record for every test run. It should capture the workflow ID, authorized user role, issuer, as-of time, Data Room, required source classes, ontology mappings, report template, reviewer, and final disposition. Attach the resulting report and preserve the citations and unresolved items with it.

Judge the pilot on concrete questions:

  • Did restricted material remain aligned with the authorized role?
  • Did company, security, period, unit, and restatement mappings remain consistent?
  • Could the reviewer reopen each material claim at the supporting passage?

  • Were missing evidence and source conflicts visible to the analyst?
  • Could the team repeat the workflow with the same recorded scope?

Do not reduce these checks to one average score. Entitlement handling, claim support, entity resolution, and report fidelity are distinct acceptance decisions. The completed source-to-report record gives research, compliance, technology, and procurement owners the same evidence when they decide how to expand the deployment.

Why the source architecture matters now

Recent market research reinforces the need for this design. In an August 2026 article, AlphaSense reported results from 241 finance questions comparing its document retrieval with two unnamed open-web configurations. The company reported evidence-coverage, cost, and citation differences in its setup. Those figures are vendor-reported and the public article does not provide the questions, rubrics, raw outputs, or full provider configuration needed for reproduction.

The useful takeaway for an AllMind team is architectural: important investment work can require built-in premium datasets, official records, entitlement-gated external views, and proprietary firm context in the same answer.
