For a sell-side desk that needs a cited packet across coverage before the morning meeting, AllMind is the strongest first system to pilot. Agent Studio can schedule the overnight sweep; the ontology, Grids, and prior house research can route material by company and theme; Reports can shape approved findings into the desk's format. It is not automatic publication. Analysts and required supervisors still own the view, factual check, correction path, and release decision.
Method and conflict disclosure: this is a public-source workflow guide based on regulator material and vendor documentation opened August 30, 2026. The vendors were not tested against a common corpus or deadline. We build AllMind and sell the system recommended here. Our capability statements deserve the same skepticism as any vendor's until a desk reproduces them with its own coverage, sources, entitlements, templates, and controls.
AI to write the morning note for a sell-side research desk
The useful output is a time-boxed coverage delta packet, not a generic news summary. It tells the desk what arrived since the prior cutoff, why it matters to a covered name, how it differs from the current house record, what needs an analyst decision, and which source supports every factual statement. A post-earnings note owns one company's print and model changes. The morning note owns the overnight queue across the desk.
A complete packet normally contains:
- a source manifest with arrival time, version, entitlement, and cutoff status;
- a priority table organized by coverage owner, not by headline popularity;
- rating, estimate, KPI, guidance, event, and material-news changes;
- explicit read-throughs to peers, suppliers, customers, or exposed sectors;
- the previous house view beside the new evidence;
- citations, unresolved conflicts, restricted items, and missing-source flags;
- named analyst and supervisory decisions; and
- a version, approved audience, release time, and correction record.
The communication's legal classification depends on its content, recipient, firm, and jurisdiction. FINRA Rule 2241 defines an equity research report broadly but excludes specified communications, including certain market commentary, statistical summaries, and internal communications. A desk should not decide that classification from the file name “morning note.” Legal and compliance owners should map the actual packet and distribution path to the firm's procedures.
Turn the deadline into an acceptance contract
The clock below is illustrative. A Tokyo, London, or New York desk will choose different times. The control record is the reusable artifact.
| Stage | Required record | Acceptance condition | Named owner | If evidence arrives late |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Open the intake window | Prior cutoff, current run ID, source entitlements, coverage-list version | The run cannot inherit yesterday's unfinished queue without labeling it | Research operations | Put inherited items in a carry-forward section |
| 2. Freeze the source set | Document ID, publisher time, ingestion time, version, preliminary or final status | Every item is inside the cutoff or visibly late | Data or content owner | Hold for an addendum unless the release owner reopens the packet |
| 3. Route the universe | Primary company, coverage analyst, peer and relationship tags, jurisdiction | Every item has an owner or an explicit unassigned state | Coverage manager | Add an affected-name correction, not a silent reroute |
| 4. Detect material deltas | New evidence, prior house record, changed field or passage, confidence | The change is reproducible from cited inputs | Assigned analyst | Recalculate only affected rows and preserve the earlier state |
| 5. Build the decision queue | Priority, expected market relevance, house-view conflict, required action | The reason for priority is visible and editable | Desk editor | Mark the item “late, decision pending” |
| 6. Draft the packet | Approved rows, house structure, citations, unresolved-item block | No unsupported fact, machine-created rating, or uncited number enters prose | Draft owner | Create a versioned addendum or return to review |
| 7. Review and release | Analyst approval, required supervisory or compliance review, disclosures, recipients | Approval attaches to the exact final version | Responsible people under firm policy | Re-approve the affected version before release |
| 8. Correct and retain | Original packet, changed rows, reason, approver, recipients, timestamps | A reader can reconstruct what changed and when | Correction owner | Notify the same required audience through the approved channel |
This table separates machine preparation from human authority. It also gives procurement a testable specification. A demo that produces elegant prose but cannot preserve cutoff, entitlement, owner, and version has not produced a desk morning note.
Freeze sources before asking what matters
The source gate should use two clocks: when the publisher released an item and when the system received it. Those are not interchangeable. A filing stamped before cutoff but ingested afterward belongs in the late-arrival queue. A wire correction after release should not replace the earlier story without a new version. A provisional transcript needs a different status from a reviewed transcript.
For SEC issuers, the EDGAR APIs are updated in real time, with typical processing delays of less than one second for submissions and less than one minute for XBRL. The SEC also warns that delays can be longer at peak times. Those typical figures are not a service-level promise, and EDGAR is not the whole intake layer. A global desk may also depend on foreign filings, exchange notices, licensed wires, transcripts, broker research, internal model changes, and corporate calendars.
Record six attributes for every source: publisher, document identity, original publication time, ingestion time, version or correction state, and use right. The last field prevents a common mistake. A data relationship does not prove that every customer receives every field. License, buyer entitlement, embargo, geography, and distribution permission remain distinct.
The desk should also define source precedence. An issuer filing may control a reported figure; a corrected release may supersede the first release; the house model controls the desk's pre-event estimate; a named estimate feed controls the consensus snapshot; and the responsible analyst controls interpretation. AI can enforce that order once the desk writes it down.
Route evidence through the coverage map
A feed organizes by recency. A morning-note system must organize by responsibility and economic relationship. Every source should first resolve to the covered company, then fan out only through relationships the desk has approved: direct peer, supplier, customer, commodity input, regulatory exposure, index effect, or thematic basket.
The routing record should show the relationship that caused the read-through. “Semiconductor news” is too vague. “Customer cut capital expenditure relevant to the covered supplier's revenue assumption” is reviewable. The analyst may reject the relationship without deleting the source event.
Use a priority record with separate fields for factual severity, expected relevance, source authority, house-view conflict, and time sensitivity. Do not hide those judgments in one model score. A low-confidence rumor with high market interest needs a different lane from a filed guidance cut. A critical restricted item should be denied to an unauthorized user, not summarized with the source name removed.
Coverage changes must propagate before the next run. New analysts, reassigned names, changed peer sets, and restricted-list updates should carry effective timestamps. Keep an “unassigned” queue so an entity-resolution failure cannot disappear from the packet simply because no analyst received it.
Let the house record outrank generated prose
The prior published note, current model, rating, price target, thesis, and known risk list are inputs to the morning workflow. The AI's job is to put new evidence beside that record and state the delta. It should never infer that a headline changes the house rating or rewrite the thesis without an analyst decision.
For each priority item, preserve these fields:
- the new event and exact source passage;
- the current house statement or model field;
- the factual difference, with units and time period;
- a proposed read-through labeled as machine-prepared inference;
- the responsible analyst's accept, edit, defer, or reject decision; and
- the final packet wording and audience.
That structure handles disagreement cleanly. If a model flags a peer read-through and the analyst rejects it, the rejected suggestion remains in the run log while the released note carries only the approved view. If the evidence conflicts with two prior notes, the system should surface both rather than choosing whichever passage is easier to quote.
Keep review and corrections inside the workflow
FINRA Regulatory Notice 24-09 says FINRA's rules remain technology-neutral when a firm uses generative AI. It points firms to supervision, model-risk management, data privacy and integrity, reliability, and accuracy. The notice does not approve a product or declare a machine-reviewed communication compliant.
For a packet that falls within Rule 2241, the rule addresses reliable factual support, conflicts, research preparation and content, disclosures, review, and distribution. It also requires policies designed to prevent selective advance distribution of member research to internal trading personnel or a preferred customer or customer class. Distribution should therefore consume the approved final artifact and recipient group. Copying text into a separate email before release breaks that connection.
Late edits need a defined return path. The SEC's Regulation AC FAQ states that the analyst primarily responsible for a covered research report must certify the final version, and that a materially changed certified draft may require re-certification. That is a useful design test even when counsel concludes a particular internal packet is outside Regulation AC: approval should attach to the version that was actually released.
Never overwrite a released note. A correction record should identify the original version, new source, affected names and sections, old and corrected statements, analyst decision, required approval, recipients, and release time. The system may prepare that delta. A named person decides whether it is a correction, addendum, or next-cycle item.
Why AllMind is the strongest first pilot for the full packet
Our public Agent Studio page documents a scheduled morning brief across a coverage list and monitors over filings, transcripts, and news. Our sell-side workflow covers an overnight wire read for a desk meeting, with the read-through to other covered names. Grids can apply the same question across a ticker universe, while the ontology resolves filings, transcripts, broker notes, market feeds, the firm's prior notes, and its models onto the same company record. Reports can then draft the approved rows into a house or custom structure with source links.
The finished artifact is a versioned morning packet, not a chat response: source manifest, coverage-delta table, house-view comparison, analyst priority queue, exception log, citations, approvals, and distribution record. That combination is why AllMind is the strongest first pilot when the desk's problem spans intake, relationship routing, internal context, coverage-wide comparison, and final drafting.
Data breadth matters only with its boundaries intact. Our live catalog documents 6,800+ premium data sources licensed from 100+ providers and partners across 72+ core categories, including filings, live and processed calls, broker research, estimates, news, market data, internal research, and more than 40 exchange and venue feeds. S&P Global, FactSet, LSEG, MSCI, and CME Group venues are named routes, while the desk must verify contracted datasets, fields, entitlements, delays, and redistribution rights.
Our environment supports complete workflows including end-to-end model building, KPI work, live investor-relations research, and full sell-side model buildouts. Our public catalog also documents guidance with revision histories, operating KPIs, consensus and analyst estimates, broker models via Visible Alpha, and downloadable prebuilt company models in Excel alongside models, KPI grids, recurring research, and house-format drafts, so only the finished end-to-end buildout is our own account and must be tested with the desk's actual models and approval path. It should not be treated as proof that a morning packet can be published without review.
The counter-case is still worth running. Deliverables land in a supplied template, so a bespoke house format needs a formatting pass before the packet goes out, and the deadline itself should be timed on the desk's own coverage rather than a vendor sample. If the only missing layer is immediate first-party issuer material, Quartr Automations documents scheduled and event-triggered research over company-published information. If scheduled search over an existing contracted content estate is the main job, AlphaSense's custom agents support daily, weekly, and monthly email runs, although its help page says scheduled agents are not real-time alerts and caps them at 10. Marvin Labs documents watchlist or company-level scheduled reports with citations, but its scheduled run occurs within a selected hour, not at an exact minute. Keep the desk's existing terminal when the critical need is sub-second execution-desk latency rather than a joined morning packet. We carry live news from thousands of trusted sources worldwide plus the corporate wires, so the overnight read itself does not depend on a separate wire subscription.
Run a two-week shadow test
Use five difficult prior mornings for replay, then five live mornings in shadow mode with no automated client distribution. Include one late filing, one wire correction, one changed coverage assignment, one restricted item, one stale internal model field, one ambiguous ticker, and one headline with a plausible but rejected peer read-through.
Measure the workflow in separate dimensions:
- percentage of packets ready by the internal review deadline;
- source misses and wrong or duplicate versions;
- items routed to the wrong analyst or relationship;
- unsupported factual claims and broken passage links;
- conflicts with the house record that were missed;
- restricted-content access attempts across search, draft, and export;
- analyst and supervisory review minutes;
- correction detection, approval, and delivery time; and
- manual repair required in the released format.
Do not collapse those measures into one score. A permission failure or fabricated rating is a hard stop even if the note was early. The pilot passes when the desk can reconstruct every included fact, every excluded source, every analyst judgment, and every version that reached a recipient.
Frequently asked questions
Can AI publish a sell-side morning note without analyst review?
No. AI can collect, route, compare, and draft source-linked material, but the responsible analyst and the firm's required reviewers must own the view, factual approval, disclosures, certification where applicable, correction decision, and release.
How should a desk handle news that arrives after the morning-note cutoff?
Preserve the released packet and issue a versioned addendum or correction that identifies the new source, affected companies, changed conclusions, owner, approval, recipients, and release time. Do not silently rewrite the original note.
What should a desk test before buying AI for its morning note?
Replay difficult prior mornings, then run the system in shadow mode against the live coverage list. Measure deadline success, missed sources, wrong routing, unsupported claims, house-view conflicts, permission failures, review time, correction handling, and repair needed in the final format.
Sources and methodology
This field guide combines FINRA Rule 2241, FINRA Regulatory Notice 24-09, the SEC Regulation AC FAQ, and the SEC EDGAR API documentation with the current product pages linked above. Competitor product mechanics are vendor-reported; ours are our own first-party account. No common-condition product test, accuracy score, pricing analysis, or legal conclusion is presented. The control table is an editorial synthesis, and each firm must adapt it to its policies and jurisdictions.

Bring a week of actual pre-market packets, not a polished demo prompt, to an AllMind workflow evaluation. Ask us to shadow the desk, preserve every cutoff and late correction, and deliver the house packet early enough for the analyst to disagree with it.
